ISWA Unveils New Film: The Next Cycle

ISWA, the International Solid Waste Association, launched an international environmental action campaign at the 2024 ISWA Annual Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, featuring international actor Pepê Rapazote as the main protagonist.

The film, which serves as the foundation for the international campaign, was unveiled at the world’s largest waste management congress, an annual event where industry experts gather to discuss the future of environmental sustainability and the path toward a circular economy.

The Next Cycle

Pepê Rapazote is the face of the campaign that challenges citizens to be part of the solution, revealing recently published information by ISWA and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) which shows that the annual cost of managing waste, given the current state of the planet, is $361 billion and is projected to grow to 640 billion if no action is taken. This scenario could improve drastically if sound circular economy measures and policies are adopted, bringing environmental, social, and economic benefits for all.

Launch at the ISWA World Congress in Cape Town

The film was presented in Cape Town at the 2024 ISWA World Congress, held for the first time on the African continent. The ISWA World Congress is an international event that has been organised annually since 1972 and is considered the leading waste management event in the industry, taking place in different cities every year.

Call to Action
