Recycling is Real Releases Videos Featuring Advanced Recycling at PureCycle in Ironton, Ohio

Washington, D.C.  The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) has released a series of new videos as part of the Recycling is Real advocacy initiative. The videos highlight the work taking place at PureCycle’s facility in Ironton, Ohio, where employees are using advanced recycling technology to recycle plastics.

Since its launch in 2023, PLASTICS’ Recycling is Real campaign has highlighted mechanical and advanced recycling facilities throughout the United States. Employees in each video, representing the recycling workforce throughout America are featured at locations including Atlanta, GA; Kingsport, TN; Madison, WI; North Vernon, IN; Baton Rouge, LA; Portland, PA; Eagle Rock, VA; Rialto, CA; Wytheville, VA; Piqua, OH; Reidsville, NC; Tampa, FL; Chino, CA; and Farmingdale, NY.

“Plastic recycling is absolutely real, and advanced recycling technologies are expanding the possibilities for recycling even more types of plastic,” said PLASTICS President and CEO Matt Seaholm. “Our Recycling is Real campaign shows a dedicated workforce that uses incredible innovations across the country to make plastic recycling happen every day. Our industry is committed to demonstrating to the public and policymakers alike that recycling is not only real—it’s practical, effective, and essential to building a more circular economy.”

“We’re proud to be one of the companies leading the way on advanced recycling and it’s important to shine a light on the people who are making it happen,” said PureCycle CEO Dustin Olson. “Recycling is real. We live it every day at our flagship facility in Ironton, Ohio and our PureCycle team is dedicated to helping improve recycling rates and expanding the end-uses for recycled content.”

The Recycling is Real campaign provides content to help elected officials and policymakers understand that recycling is a vital link in the sustainability and circularity chain, enabling them to make well-informed decisions about recycling resources for their constituents.

The Recycling is Real campaign was created in an effort to put an end to false narratives suggesting recycling is not actually happening or claiming that recycling is a “myth.” Recycling has come under attack from those seeking to reduce or eliminate the production of plastic altogether. Recycling is Real shows how recycling happens, where it happens, and introduces the people who make it happen.

PureCycle Technologies LLC., a subsidiary of PureCycle Technologies, Inc., holds a global license for the only patented dissolution recycling technology, developed by The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G), that is designed to transform polypropylene plastic waste (designated as #5 plastic) into a continuously renewable resource. The unique purification process removes color, odor, and other impurities from #5 plastic waste resulting in our PureFive™ resin that can be recycled and reused multiple times, changing our relationship with plastic.

The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) supports the entire plastics supply chain, including Equipment Suppliers, Material Suppliers, Processors, and Recyclers, representing over one million workers in our $519 billion U.S. industry. PLASTICS advances the priorities of our members who are dedicated to investing in technologies that improve capabilities and advances in recycling and sustainability and providing essential products that allow for the protection and safety of our lives. Since 1937, PLASTICS has been working to make its members, and the eighth largest U.S. manufacturing industry, more globally competitive while supporting circularity through educational initiatives, industry-leading insights and events, convening opportunities and policy advocacy, including the largest plastics trade show in the Americas, NPE: The Plastics Show.
