Polyethylene terephthalate (sometimes written poly(ethylene terephthalate)), commonly abbreviated PET, PETE, or the obsolete PETP or PET-P is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family and is used in synthetic fibers; beverage, food and other liquid containers; thermoforming applications; and engineering resins often in combination with glass fiber.
The majority of the world's PET production is for synthetic fibers (in excess of 60%), with bottle production accounting for around 30% of global demand. In the context of textile applications, PET is referred to by its common name, "polyester," whereas the acronym "PET" is generally used in relation to packaging. Polyester makes up about 18% of world polymer production and is the third-most-produced polymer; polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) are first and second, respectively.
PET-P is an unreinforced, semicrystalline thermoplastic polyester based on polyethylene terephthalate. It is a high-strength product, has excellent dimensional stability and resists wear and the effects of moderately acidic solutions. A high melting point enables PET-P to retain significantly more of its original strength than nylon or acetal, making it suitable for the manufacture of precision mechanical parts. Its low moisture absorption enables mechanical and electrical properties to remain virtually unaffected by moisture.
In addition, PET-P has good resistance to chemicals and abrasion and can be machined to exacting detail on standard metal-working equipment.
PET-P Ertalyte is FDA compliant in natural and black. Natural PET-P Ertalyte is also USDA, 3A-Dairy and Canada AG compliant. PET-Ertalyte is an excellent candidate for parts used in the food processing and equipment industries.

Grades
Ertalyte PET-P
Ertalyte PET-P is a thermoplastic polyester based on polyethylene terephthalate that has excellent wear resistance, low coefficient of friction, high strength, and resistance to moderately acidic solutions. It also is more rigid and provides better thermal performance than nylon or acetal.
Ertalyte TX
Ertalyte TX is an internally lubricated thermoplastic polyester. It provides excellent wearability and a level of inertness that surpasses nylon and acetal. The uniform distribution of solid lubricant throughout the product results in minimal wear and friction, outperforming unmodified polyesters such as PET or PBT as well as internally lubricated products. Ertalyte TX performs exceptionally well under high-pressure and high-velocity conditions and is well suited for uses involving soft metal and plastic mating surfaces.
