SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) honoured seven of its member companies in recognition of their outstanding commitment to safety and health initiatives.
According to worldsteel press release, ArcelorMittal and JFE Steel Corporation were honoured for demonstrating notable improvements in safety culture and leadership. ArcelorMittal was recognized for its ‘A sustainable journey to zero accidents’ initiative launched in 2017 by ArcelorMittal Long Brazil. The company-wide horizontal development programme, initiated in2020, to establish a systematic approach to prevent similar-type accidents, won the worldsteel recognition.

The two winners in ‘occupational safety management’ category were Emirates Steel and U.S. Steel. Emirates Steel was honoured for its comprehensive safety improvement programme focused on crane operations and rigging activities, whereas the haul truck and loader tyre safety improvement programme won the laurels for U.S. Steel.
Tata Steel’s Wellness@Workplace Programme, POSCO Holding’s Smart Safety Ball and Hyundai Steel’squadruped robot (SPOT) programme to prevent exposure to explosion risk and related accidents were the three winners under the ‘process safety management’ category.
