SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) published the list of top ten crude steel producers during the month of January this year.
China continued to remain as the topmost steel producer, with an estimated output of 81.70 million tonnes (Mt). The country’s output witnessed substantial decline by 11.20% from the same month a year before.
The second largest crude steel producer was India, whose output totalled 10.80 Mt. The country’s output recorded year-on-year surge by 4.70%. In third place was Japan, whose output recorded year-on-year decline by 2.10% to total 7.80 Mt during the month of January this year, worldsteel data said.

The other world countries to feature in the top-ten list include the U.S. (7.30 Mt), Russia (6.6 Mt), South Korea (6.0 Mt), Germany (3.3 Mt), Turkey (3.2 Mt), Brazil (2.9 Mt) and Iran (2.80 Mt). Among these, the U.S., Russia and Iran witnessed jump in output, whereas all others reported production decline.
The steel production by the 64 countries reporting to the association was 155.0 million tonnes (Mt) in the opening month of the current year, down by 6.10% compared to January 2021. These 64 countries had accounted for approximately 98% of the total world crude steel production in 2020.
