Only Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine and Other Europe reported decline in crude steel production year over year.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In March of this year, 69 countries that are members of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) produced 166.1 million tonnes (Mt) of crude steel, which was a slight increase of 2.9% over the same month last year.
With 123.6 Mt, Asia and Oceania was the region with the highest steel production for the month. With 11.7 Mt produced, the EU-27 region was the second-largest producer. With a 9.2 Mt production, the North American countries came in third. Africa (1.9), South America (3.7), the Middle East (5.3), Other Europe (3.6), and Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine (7.1) make up the remaining regions' output (in Mt).

The only countries that recorded a reduction in crude steel production year over year were Russia, the remainder of the CIS+, Ukraine, and other European countries.
According to reports, production rose in every other region during the month. The South American region saw the biggest growth in production, up 6.5%. Year-over-year, the production of crude steel in the Middle East and Asia and Oceania increased by 1.9% and 3.9%, respectively.
With a slight 0.2% increase in output over March 2024, the EU-27 region saw the weakest year-over-year gain in March of this year.
During the first three months of this year, 468.6 Mt of crude steel were produced overall.
