worldsteel Declared Surge in Crude Steel Output During May

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The world crude steel production by 71 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totalled 165.1 million tonnes (Mt) in the month of May this year, modestly higher by 1.5% when compared with the corresponding month a year before.

The largest steel producing region was the Asia and Oceania, whose output totalled 122.1 Mt during the month. The second largest producer was the EU-27 region, with an output of 11.7 Mt. In third place was the North American countries, which recorded an output of 9.4 Mt. The output (in Mt) by the other regions is as follows: Africa (1.8), Russia and other CIS+ Ukraine (7.7), Other Europe (3.9), Middle East (5.2) and South America (3.3).

worldsteel: World Crude Steel Output Dipped in April

The crude steel production recorded year-on-year decline only in two regions- North America and South America. The South American region output dipped the most, falling by 8.2% from the prior year month. The North American region too saw nominal dip in output by 0.9%.

All other regions reported surge in production during the month. The largest production increase of 6.2% was recorded by the countries in the Other Europe region. The other regions to record year-on-year surge in crude steel production volumes were the Middle East and Russia and other CIS+ Ukraine, whose output recorded increase by 6.2% and 2.8% respectively year-on-year. The EU-27 crude steel output too went higher by 1.8%.

The Asia & Oceania output too was up by 1.6% upon comparison with May 2023. The African region recorded modest year-on-year surge in output by 0.9%.
