SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released the list of top 10 steel producing nations during the month of July this year.
China topped the list, with the country’s output recording significant decline by 9.0% over the previous year. The country’s crude steel output totalled 82.9 Mt during the month. The cumulative output during the first seven months of the current year totalled 613.7 Mt, marginally lower by 2.2% over the corresponding period a year before.

India’s estimated output, at 12.3 Mt, recorded notable surge by 6.8% over the same month a year before. The country produced 86.4 Mt of steel during Jan-July ’24. The Japanese output inched lower by 3.8% during the month to total 7.1 Mt, while its cumulative yearly output until July this year was down by 2.8% over the prior year to total 49.8 Mt.
The U.S. produced 6.9 Mt of steel, up by 2.1% when compared with the prior year. Russia is estimated to have produced 6.3 Mt, modestly down by 3.1% year-on-year. The output by other countries in the top ten list in Mt is as follows: South Korea (5.5), Germany (3.1), Turkiye (3.1), Brazil (3.1) and Iran (1.8).
Among the top ten steel producing nations, Iran recorded highest dip in steel output during the month, falling significantly by 18.7% year-on-year. On the other hand, Brazilian output surged the most, recording 11.6% jump year-on-year.
