SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The world crude steel production by 71 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totalled 161.4 million tonnes (Mt) in the month of June this year, marginally higher by 0.5% when compared with the corresponding month a year before.
The largest steel producing region was the Asia and Oceania, whose output totalled 120.6 Mt during the month. The second largest producer was the EU-27 region, with an output of 11.1 Mt. In third place was the North American countries, which recorded an output of 8.9 Mt. The output (in Mt) by the other regions is as follows: Africa (1.6), Russia and other CIS+ Ukraine (7.4), Other Europe (3.8), Middle East (4.6) and South America (3.5).

The crude steel production recorded year-on-year decline only in three regions- North America, Middle East and Africa. The African region output dipped the most, falling by 9.6% from the prior year month. The Middle East and North American region too saw nominal dip in output by 2.7% and 1.9%.
All other regions reported surge in production during the month. The largest production increase of 5.1% was recorded by the EU-27 countries. The other regions to record year-on-year surge in crude steel production volumes were the South American and Other Europe, whose output recorded increase by 4.1% and 2.1% respectively year-on-year.
The cumulative steel output during the initial six-month period of the year stood more or less unchanged at 954.6 Mt.
