SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The crude steel output by 67 world countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totaled 145.254 Million tonnes during October 2017. This is in accordance with the monthly statistics published by the steel trade body. The monthly output surged higher by 5.9% when compared with the output during the same month a year before. These 66 countries had accounted for approximately 99% of the total world crude steel production in 2016.

The table below provides the details about leading crude steel producers during the month of October this year.

DRI Output

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in October this year has edged higher by more than 5% over the previous month. The production totaled 5.680 million metric tons (Mt), as compared with 5.400 Mt during the previous month.

The top DRI producer during the month was Iran with estimated output of 2.095 Mt. The output increased marginally from 2.029 Mt during the previous month. India’s output totaled 1.249 Mt, a little higher from 1.231 Mt in September. The Mexican DRI output in October this year amounted to 490,000 metric tons, which is slightly higher than 475,000 metric tons output recorded during September this year. The Saudi Arabian output too totaled 490,000 metric tons. The output by the other ten countries during the month are: Canada (118), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (149), Peru (Nil), Venezuela (50), Egypt (345), Libya (63), South Africa (54), Qatar (238) and United Arab Emirates (338).

 

Cumulative ten-month output

The combined output during the first ten months of the year totaled 51.075 Mt. The table given below provides the list of world’s top ten DRI producers during the first ten months of 2017.

The World Steel production figures are based on the figures collected from 14 countries, which accounted for approximately 85% of the global DRI production in 2016.
