DRI Output

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in June this year has declined considerably by nearly 6% over the previous month. The production totaled 4.849 million metric tons (Mt), as compared with 5.155 Mt during the month prior to that.

Iran continued to be the top DRI producing country with estimated output of 1.534 Mt. However, the output declined sharply from 1.679 Mt during the previous month. India’s output totaled 1.185 Mt, declining from 1.225 Mt in May. The Mexican DRI output in June this year amounted to 535,000 metric tons, which is slightly lower than 552,000 metric tons output recorded during May this year. The output by other eleven countries during the month are: Canada (90), Saudi Arabia (481), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (81), Peru (Nil), Venezuela (50), Egypt (311), Libya (39), South Africa (94), Qatar (225) and United Arab Emirates (224).
