SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Weyerhaeuser Company has been ranked as the largest producer of lumber in the United States in 2020, as per the Top 10 List published by Forisk Consulting. The list includes three Canadian companies- West Fraser, Interfor and Canfor.
According to Forisk, the current production capacity of Weyerhaeuser is estimated at 4,310 billion board feet (MMBF). In second and third spots are West Fraser with 3,275 MMBF and Georgia-Pacific Co. with 3,273 MMBF of production capacity respectively. The others in the top-ten list in decreasing order are: Sierra Pacific Industries (2,701), Interfor (2,055), Canfor (2,039), Hampton Affiliates (1,825), Idaho Forest Group (1,370), PotlatchDeltic (1,070) and RSG Forest Products (875).

Georgia-Pacific bettered its ranking by one place compared with the prior year. Forisk noted that the company made the most changes in 2020. In addition to restarting the Warrenton, Ga rebuilt mill, it also opened a new $150 million sawmill in Albany, Ga.
The combined total production capacity of top ten softwood lumber producers was 22,793 billion board feet in 2020, which accounted for just over 50% of the total U.S. production capacity during the year. The capacity surged higher by 2.1% from 2019, despite being a year marked by Covid-19 crisis. Upon comparison with 2017, the combined production capacity was up significantly by over 25%.
