SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Atlanta-based packaging company WestRock Company announced plans to build a new corrugated box plant in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Also, its existing North Chicago plant will be closed upon completion of construction of the new plant. The proposed plant will help the company meet the rising customer demand from the Great Lakes region.

According to company press release, the investment will significantly boost WestRock’s production capabilities and improve its cost profile in the region. The reduced energy consumption coupled with latest technologies will boost sustainability. The reduced manufacturing costs and waste will result in significant improvement in the company’s overall manufacturing cost profile.
The cost of construction of the plant is estimated at around $140 million, which is expected to be partially offset by property sales. The construction is expected to begin this year, with completion slated for 2025.
David B. Sewell, chief executive officer, WestRock stated that the investment in the new state-of-the-art corrugated converting facility will elevate its production capabilities and boost its margin improvement efforts. By expanding its presence in a critical demand area such as the Great Lakes, the company aims to solidify its position as the supplier of choice.
