SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): WestRock Company announced its decision to shut down a paper machine at Evadale, Texas mill. This will reduce the company’s production capacity of solid bleach sulphate (SBS) mill system by approximately 200,000 tons. Meantime, the operations of the other machines at the mill will be unaffected.
According to company press release, the shutdown will come into effect by the end of this year. The decision will lead to loss of nearly 60 jobs at the facility. Further to the shutdown of the paper machine, WestRock’s total SBS production capacity will be reduced to around 1.9 million tons, it noted.
Patrick Lindner, chief innovation officer and president, Consumer Packaging for WestRock stated that reduction of production capacity at the Evadale mill will improve the mill’s competitiveness, especially when taking into account the current economic conditions and anticipated supply needs. The decision will help to balance its supply with customers’ demand and enable the company to more efficiently serve its customers.
West Company, a leading provider of differentiated paper and packaging solutions, is due to release its fourth quarter and full year fiscal 2020 results on Thursday, November 5, 2020. A conference call is scheduled on the same day at 8:30 am ET.
