According to company press release, both the Quesnel River Pulp mill and Slave Lake Pulp mills will be now operated by Millar Western Forest Products, which has been part of Atlas’ global manufacturing and distribution business since 2017. It must be noted that both the mills produce Bleached Chemi-Thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP), which in turn are used in the manufacture of paper products.
Sean McLaren, President & CEO West Fraser thanked its dedicated employees for their several years of service to the company. He also extended thanks to the communities of Quesnel and Slave Lake. The sale of the pulp assets will help West Fraser focus on its strategic plans to become North America’s premier building products company, McLaren added.
Earlier in February this year, West Fraser had sold its Hinton pulp mill to Mondi Group plc.
