Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- October 4, 2024

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly global market price trends of the various scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the most recent week (September 27–October 3, 2024) are provided below:

Copper Scrap Prices

The prices of copper scrap reported a nominal decline of 0.93% week-on-week.

North America

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices witnessed a marginal decline over the prior week, falling by 0.91%. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing saw a 0.93% decline, ending the week at $4.25 per pound as opposed to $4.29 at the beginning. . Similarly, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices went lower by $0.04 per Lb, dropping from $4.19 per Lb to $4.15 per Lb.

On Thursday, October 3, 2024, the prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright registered a weekly decline of 0.91%, moving down from $4.39 per pound to $4.35 per pound on the ScrapMonster Index. Over the course of the week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing decreased in price from $4.19 to $4.15 per pound. By the end of the week, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was $4.15 per pound, recording a fall of 0.95% in price.

USA Midwest

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices exhibited a decline of 0.93% over the previous week. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing saw 0.95% decrease in price as well, ending the week at $4.15 per pound after beginning the week at $4.19 per pound. Another copper scrap category to witness a week-on-week dip in prices was #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, the prices of which fell from $4.09 per Lb to $4.05 per Lb over the week.

USA West Coast

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright dropped marginally by 0.90% over the course of the week, moving down from $4.46 to $4.42 per pound, according to the ScrapMonster Index. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing price went down this week, from $4.36 to $4.32 per pound. The price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing fell 0.94% from the opening price of $4.26 per pound to $4.22 per pound towards the end of the week.

China

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices showed a modest increase to CNY 77,900 per MT as compared to the previous week's price of CNY 77,800 per MT. Over the prior week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing also recorded a nominal increase of 0.13%. Additionally, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index went higher by 0.14% to CNY 73,200 per MT.

Europe

The weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright was $6,000 per tonne, unchanged from the previous week’s price. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing's price on the Index remained steady at $5,200 per tonne, same as that of the previous week. Furthermore, the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing price did not change on the Index during the week ending October 3, 2024.

Brass Scrap Prices

Brass Scrap prices witnessed marginal decline of 0.42% over the previous week.

North America

Red brass prices declined from $2.46 per pound to $2.45 per pound by the end of the week. Yellow Brass was also down on the Index. The price of the commodity recorded decline, from $2.31 to $2.30 per pound, or 0.43%.

The prices of Red Brass reported a decline of 0.41% upon comparison with the previous week. In addition, the price of Yellow brass decreased slightly from $2.31 to $2.30 per pound by the end of the week.

USA Midwest

Red Brass had a slight decrease in price from $2.44 per pound to $2.43 per pound, or 0.41% less than the previous week. Yellow Brass too was down on Index. The prices of the commodity recorded a dip of 0.44%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was selling for $2.49 per pound as of Thursday, October 3, 2024, 0.40% lower than the previous week’s price. In addition, over the previous week, Yellow Brass's price per pound fell by 0.42%.

China

Prices for Red Brass and Yellow Brass witnessed no change during the course of the week. Red Brass was reported to have remained unchanged in price at CNY 38,500 per MT. Additionally, Yellow Brass prices held steady at CNY 35,850 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

Aluminum Scrap prices inched higher marginally by 1.33% on the Index during the previous week.

North America

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices recorded an increase of 1.72% over the previous week. Comparing the price of 6063 Extrusions to the previous week's price, there was a marginal increase of 1.09% during the week ending October 3, 2024. On the Index, Old cast prices increased by 1.27%. Also, UBC's prices were up by 1.25% from the prior week.

At the closing price of $1.18 per pound as of October 3, 2024, E.C. Aluminum Wire prices reported an increase of 1.72% on a weekly basis. The price of 6063 Extrusions inched higher by 1.09% during the week. Old Cast's prices increased by 1.27% on the Index. When compared to the previous week, UBC pricing were up by 1.25%.

USA Midwest

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices were up from the previous week by 1.72%. Over the previous week, the commodity's prices increased by $0.02 per Lb to close the week at $1.18 per Lb. Meanwhile, 6063 Extrusions recorded an increase of 1.11% in weekly pricing. On the ScrapMonster Index, the prices of UBC and Old Cast witnessed nominal increase by 1.27% and 1.30% respectively.

USA West Coast

Prices for E.C. Aluminum Wire recorded an upward movement, rising by 1.72% from the prior week. When compared to the $0.92 per pound price from the previous week, the ScrapMonster Index recorded marginal rise by $0.01 per Lb in the price of 6063 extrusions. On the Index, Old Cast prices increased by 1.25% week-on-week. Prices of UBC also were up by 1.23% as of October 3, 2024.

China

Prices for E.C. Aluminum Wire finished the week at $19,250 per MT, registering no change from the week before. The prices of 6063 Extrusions were flat over the previous week. On the Index, Old Cast's prices witnessed no variation. In the meantime, UBC prices held steady at CNY 12,450 per MT as of October 3, 2024.

Europe

The prices of Old Cast held steady at $1,050 per Tonne during the week. UBC prices also were flat, maintaining the previous week’s price of $1,250 per Tonne on the ScrapMonster Index.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap showed a weekly increase of 4.69%.

North America

An examination of 304 SS Solid pricing patterns indicates that the commodity's costs rose somewhat from the prior week. There was a $0.03 increase in the price per pound during the week.

The prices of 304 SS Solid recorded a modest jump of 4.69% over the previous week as of October 3, 2024. The prices during the week increased from $0.64 per Lb to $0.67 per Lb.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices were up modestly, to end the week at $0.67 per Lb.

USA West Coast

The price of 304 SS Solid for the week ending October 3, 2024, increased modestly by 4.69% over the previous week's price of $0.64 per pound.

China

304 SS Solid prices witnessed marginal increase over the week. The prices of the commodity reported increase from CNY 12,250 per MT to CNY 12,400 per MT, thus recording week-on-week jump by 1.22%.

Europe

The prices of 304 SS Solid witnessed no variation from the prior week’s price of $1,070 per Tonne during the week.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

There was no change in #1 HMS prices from the previous week. The commodity was still being sold for $300 per MT. The pricing for Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $365 per MT during the course of the week. Similarly, HMS 80/20 pricing remained at $250 per MT from the previous week. #1 Busheling pricing were steady during the week as well.

According to the ScrapMonster Index, #1 HMS's prices remained constant at $300 per MT during the week. Shredded Auto Scrap's prices for the week showed no change from $365 per MT the previous week. During the week, the price of HMS 80/20 was also fixed at $250 per MT. #1 Busheling prices on the Index were also unchanged.

USA Midwest

There was no change in #1 HMS's prices from the previous week. Shredded Auto Scrap was also flat during the course of the week. The HMS 80/20 pricing on the Index remained constant at $250 per MT. There was no change in the price of #1 Busheling in the week that ended October 3, 2024.

USA West Coast

#1 HMS prices recorded no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity held steady at $300 per MT. Shredded Auto Scrap too was stagnant, with prices reporting no change from $365 per MT during the week. HMS 80/20 prices held on to their previous week’s prices of $250 per MT. Also, #1 Busheling prices were unchanged over the week at $380 per MT.

China

#1 HMS prices witnessed no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity held steady at CNY 1,630 per MT.

Europe

According to the ScrapMonster Index, #1 HMS's prices remained constant at $170 per Tonne through the week. Shredded Auto Scrap saw no change in price from $130 per Tonne the previous week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Lead Scrap prices held steady upon comparison with the prior week.

North America

The commodity's prices showed no change from the previous week, according to a review of the price charts for Scrap Auto Batteries. During the week, the pricing remained constant at $0.22 per pound.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded a modest increase of 1.33% in prices week-on-week.

North America

Prices for New Zinc Die Cast increased from $0.82 per pound to $0.83 per pound, a gain of 1.22% over the previous week. Prices for Old Zinc Die Cast also increased week over week. The commodity's price as of Thursday, October 3, 2024, closed at $0.71 per pound.

Europe

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast reported no change during the prior week. The prices held steady at $800 per Tonne.
