Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- January 3, 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The following report displays the weekly global market price patterns for the several scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index between December 27 and January 2, 2025:

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a slight decline of 3.91% in the price of copper scrap.

North America

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright dropped by 3.81% in the previous week. The closing price of #1 Copper Wire & Tubing was $3.69 per pound, a little decrease of 3.91% from the start of the week. In a similar vein, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing dropped from $3.74 to $3.59 per pound, a $0.15 decrease.

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index dropped from $3.94 to $3.79 per pound as of Thursday, January 2, 2025, a 3.81% decrease over the course of the week. Over the course of the week, the price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing decreased from $3.84 to $3.69 per pound. The price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing dropped by 4.01% to $3.59 a pound by the end of the week.

USA Midwest

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright dropped by 3.91% in the last week. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing saw a 4.01% decrease at the end of the week, from $3.74 to $3.59 per pound. The price of copper scrap in the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category decreased slightly from $3.64 to $3.49 per pound during the week.

USA West Coast

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright dropped 3.69% throughout the week, from $4.06 to $3.91 per pound, according to the ScrapMonster Index. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing decreased from $3.96 to $3.81 per pound this week. The price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing dropped from $3.86 to $3.71 per pound at the conclusion of the week, a 3.89% decline.

China

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index experienced a slight decrease during the previous week, which ended on January 2, 2025. The weekly closing price of the commodity was CNY 72,300 per MT, which was lower than the previous week's price of CNY 73,100 per MT. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing's price decreased by 1.15% from the week before. Furthermore, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing decreased by 1.17% at the conclusion of the week, from CNY 68,400 per MT to CNY 67,600 per MT.

Europe

From the previous week, the weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright remained at $6,000 per tonne. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index was unchanged from the previous week at $5,200 per tonne. Additionally, during the week ending January 2, 2025, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index remained unchanged.

Brass Scrap Prices

The prices for brass scrap declined by 1.30% from the previous week.

North America

By the end of the week, Red Brass had dropped from $2.39 to $2.36 per pound. The Index also saw a decline in Yellow Brass. The product's price decreased by 1.34%, from $2.24 to $2.21 per pound.

Red Brass's price decreased by 1.26% during the preceding week. In addition, Yellow Brass's price per pound dropped from $2.24 to $2.21 toward the end of the week.

USA Midwest

The price of Red Brass was down 1.27% from the previous week, from $2.37 to $2.34 per pound. Yellow Brass was also down on Index. The price of the commodity fell by 1.35%.

USA West Coast

As of Thursday, January 2, 2025, Red Brass was trading at $2.40 a pound, down 1.23% from the previous week. Also, Yellow Brass's price per pound dropped by a meager 1.33% from the week before.

China

The week ending January 2, 2025, saw a slight decrease in the price of Red Brass and Yellow Brass. According to the Index, Red Brass's price went lower by CNY 150 per MT during the week, ending the week at CNY 37,750. In addition, the price of Yellow Brass was down by 0.43% over the week, from CNY 35,050 per MT to CNY 34,900 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded marginal increase by 1.18% over the previous week.

North America

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire saw slight increase by 0.88% during the previous week. In the week ending January 2, 2025, the price of 6063 Extrusions edged higher from $0.88 per pound the previous week to $0.89 per pound. The price of Old Cast on the Index increased slightly from $0.74 per pound the week before to $0.75 per pound. Furthermore, UBC's pricing increased by 1.33% from the week before.

Over the past week, E.C. Aluminum Wire's price increased by 0.88%. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions was up by 1.14% during the week ending January 2, 2025. The Index indicated a slight weekly increase in Old Cast pricing. Additionally, during the previous week, UBC's prices increased from $0.75 to $0.76 per pound.

USA Midwest

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has gone higher by 0.88% since a week ago. Last week, the price of the commodity closed at $1.15 per pound, up week-over-week by $0.01 per pound. In the meantime, 6063 Extrusions' price witnessed week-on-week increase by 1.16%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the prices of UBC and Old Cast recorded jump by 1.35% and 1.39% respectively over the previous week’s prices.

USA West Coast

Over the preceding week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire increased by 0.88%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of 6063 extrusions inched higher from $0.88 per pound the week before to $0.89 per pound. Over the course of the week, the prices of Old Cast in the Index were up by 1.33%. As of January 2, 2025, UBC's prices also increased by 1.32%.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices edged higher by 0.8% on the Index to close at CNY 18,800 per MT. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions closed at CNY 17,700 per MT, a slight increase of 0.85% from the previous week. The price of Old Cast had a minor increase of 0.86% on the Index as of January 2, 2025. UBC prices recorded week-on-week jump by 0.82%, finishing at CNY 12,300 per MT at the end of the week.

Europe

For the whole week, the price of Old Cast remained at $1,050 a tonne. Additionally, according to the ScrapMonster Index, UBC prices were unchanged from the previous week at $1,250 a tonne.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded decline of 1.56% over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An analysis of 304 SS Solid pricing trend indicates that the price of the commodity went lower week-on-week. Over the week, the price of the commodity dropped from $0.64 per Lb to $0.63 per Lb.

From the price of $1,070 per ton the week before, the price of 304 SS Solid remained constant.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

Over the previous week, the #1 HMS's price has remained unchanged. The commodity's price remained steady at $315 per MT. In addition, the cost of Shredded Auto Scrap remained steady at $365 per MT over the week. The price of HMS 80/20 was $260 per MT, the same as the week before. In addition, #1 Busheling's price remained constant throughout the week.

The ScrapMonster Index indicates that #1 HMS's prices stayed steady during the week at $315 per MT. The weekly pricing for Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged from $365 per MT the week before. The price of HMS 80/20 was set at $260 per MT for the duration of the week. The Index's #1 Busheling prices remained constant as well.

USA Midwest

#1 HMS's prices didn't change during the past week. Shredded Auto Scrap was likewise flat during the week. At $260 per MT, the Index's HMS 80/20 pricing stayed the same. The price of #1 Busheling remained unchanged during the week ending January 2, 2025.

USA West Coast

The #1 HMS pricing did not change during the past week. The price of the commodity stayed steady at $315 per MT. At $365 per MT over the week, prices for Shredded Auto Scrap also didn't change. As the previous week, HMS 80/20 prices stayed steady at $260 per MT. Furthermore, during the week, the price of #1 Busheling were unmoved at $380 per MT.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

There was no change in the price of #1 HMS during the course of the week; the ScrapMonster Index showed prices being constant at $170 per MT. Over the course of the week, Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $130 per MT from the previous week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The prices of the commodity had not changed from the previous week, according to the pricing charts for Scrap Auto Batteries. Throughout the week, the price per pound remained constant at $0.22.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded a modest decline of 1.42% in prices week-on-week.

North America

The price of New Zinc Die Cast declined by 1.30% over the previous week, from $0.77 to $0.76 per pound. Week-on-week, Old Zinc Die Cast prices likewise edged lower. As of Thursday, January 2, 2025, the closing price of the commodity was $0.64 a pound.

Europe

New Zinc Die Cast's price was the same as it was the week before. The price per tonne remained at $800.
