Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- January 17, 2025

The ScrapMonster Index indicates that #1 HMS's prices edged higher by 1.59% during the week.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The following data displays the weekly global market price trends for the various scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the week of January 10–16, 2025:

 

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a notable surge of 3.49% in the price of copper scrap.

North America

Over the past week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price increased by 3.41%. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing ended the day at $4.15 per pound, up 3.49% from the beginning of the week. Similarly, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had a $0.14 increase per pound, going from $3.91 to $4.05.

USA East Coast

As of Thursday, January 16, 2025, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index increased by 3.41% through the week, from $4.11 to $4.25 per pound. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went up from $4.01 to $4.15 per pound during the previous week. By the conclusion of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had increased by 3.58% to $4.05 per pound.

USA Midwest

Over the past week, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright has increased by 3.49%. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing increased from $3.91 to $4.05 per pound at the conclusion of the week, a 3.58% increase. In the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category, the price of copper scrap increased by 3.67%. Over the course of the week, the price per pound increased from $3.81 to $3.95.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright increased by 3.31% during the week, from $4.23 to $4.37 per pound. This week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing's price increased slightly from $4.13 to $4.27 a pound. By the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had risen 3.47%, from $4.03 to $4.17 per pound.

China

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index experienced a slight increase during the previous week, which ended on January 16, 2025. The weekly closing price of the commodity was CNY 75,050 per MT, which was higher than the previous week's price of CNY 74,250 per MT. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing's price increased by 1.13% from the week before. Furthermore, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was up by 1.15% at the conclusion of the week, from CNY 69,550 per MT to CNY 70,350 per MT.

Europe

The weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright stayed at $6,000 per tonne from the week before. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing remained at $5,200 per tonne on the Index, unchanged from the previous week. Furthermore, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index did not change during the week ending January 16, 2025.

 

Brass Scrap Prices

The prices for brass scrap edged higher by 2.54% from the previous week.

North America

Red Brass went up from $2.44 to $2.47 per pound by the conclusion of the week. Yellow Brass also jumped on the Index. The price of the commodity increased from $2.29 to $2.32 per pound, a 1.31% increase.

Over the previous week, Red Brass's price rose by 1.23%. Toward the end of the week, Yellow Brass's price per pound also went up from $2.29 to $2.32.

USA Midwest

Red brass went from $2.42 to $2.45 per pound, a 1.24% increase from the week before. Additionally, Yellow Brass was up on Index. The commodity's price increased by 1.34%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was up 1.21% from the previous week at $2.51 a pound as of Thursday, January 16, 2025. In addition, Yellow Brass's price per pound rose just 1.32% over the previous week.

China

Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices increased slightly during the week ending January 16, 2025. The Index shows that Red Brass' price increased by CNY 100 per MT during the week, ending at CNY 38,150, while Yellow Brass' price increased by 0.28% during the week, from CNY 35,200 per MT to CNY 35,300 per MT.

 

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded a marginal increase of 3.74% over the previous week.

North America

E.C. Aluminum Wire's pricing edged higher by 3.51% during the week to close at $1.18 per pound. The price of 6063 Extrusions during the week ending January 16, 2025 increased by 3.41%, from $0.88 per pound to $0.91 per pound. On the Index, the price of Old Cast were up by 4.05%. Furthermore, UBC's prices edged higher by 4% from the previous week.

Over the past week, E.C. Aluminum Wire's price increased from $1.14 per Lb to $1.18 per Lb. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions edged higher by 3.41% during the week ending January 16, 2025. The Index indicated 4.05% jump in Old Cast pricing. Also, during the previous week, UBC's prices were up by 4%.

USA Midwest

Since a week ago, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has recorded an increase of 3.51%. The commodity's price closed at $1.18 per pound last week. Meanwhile, the price of 6063 Extrusions jumped higher by 3.49% from week to week. The ScrapMonster Index indicates that UBC and Old Cast's prices edged higher by 4.05% and 4.17% respectively from the previous week.

USA West Coast

Over the preceding week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire increased from $1.14 per Lb by 3.51%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of 6063 Extrusions were up by 3.41%. Over the course of the week, the prices of Old Cast in the Index witnessed 4% jump. As of January 16, 2025, UBC's prices increased from $0.76 per Lb to $0.79 per Lb.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices increased marginally by 0.79% to close the week at CNY 19,100 per MT. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions were up by 0.84% from the previous week. The price of Old Cast inched higher by 0.85% on the Index as of January 16, 2025. UBC prices recorded week-on-week increase by 0.41%, finishing at CNY 12,350 per MT at the end of the week.

Europe

The price of Old Cast stayed at $1,050 per tonne for the entire week. Furthermore, UBC prices remained at $1,250 per tonne, the same as the previous week, according to the ScrapMonster Index.

 

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded an increase of 1.56% over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An examination of 304 SS Solid pricing trend suggests that the price of the commodity went higher week-on-week. Over the week, the price of the commodity increased from $0.64 per Lb to $0.65 per Lb.

Steel Scrap prices reported a minor increase of 2.56% when compared with the previous week.

North America

The price of the #1 HMS were up by 1.59% in the past week. The price of the commodity increased from $315 per MT to $320 per MT. Furthermore, during the week, the price of Shredded Auto Scrap recorded an upside movement of 4.11%. As of the previous week, the price of HMS 80/20 was up by 1.92%. Furthermore, the price of #1 Busheling jumped higher by 2.63% during the week.

USA Midwest

Over the previous week, #1 HMS's prices have witnesses a jump of 1.59%. During the week, Shredded Auto Scrap prices also increased by 4.11%. The Index's HMS 80/20 pricing increased from $260 per MT to $265 per MT. The week ending January 16, 2025, saw a minor positive change of 2.63% in the price of #1 Busheling.

USA West Coast

Over the previous week, there has been a 1.59% increase in the #1 HMS’s price. The commodity's price closed at $320 per MT. Additionally, rates for Shredded Auto Scrap edged higher by 4.11% to end the week at $380 per MT. HMS 80/20 pricing per MT too increased marginally by 1.92% from the previous week. Additionally, the price of #1 Busheling inched higher by 2.63% during the week.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

There was no change in the price of #1 HMS during the course of the week; the ScrapMonster Index showed prices being constant at $170 per MT. Over the course of the week, Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $130 per MT from the previous week.

 

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The Scrap Auto Batteries pricing charts showed that the commodity's prices had not moved from the week before. The price per pound stayed steady at $0.22 for the entire week.

The prices of Scrap Auto Batteries on the index reported no variation in the last week. The price of the commodity were unchanged at CNY 6,900 per MT during the week ended Thursday, January 16, 2025.

Europe

The price per ton of Scrap Auto Batteries remained at $820 throughout the week, unchanged from the previous week.

 

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded no change in prices week-on-week.

North America

New Zinc Die Cast's price held steady at $0.74 per pound. The prices for Old Zinc Die Cast also were flat week over week. The commodity's pricing was unchanged at $0.62 per pound on Thursday, January 16, 2025.

Europe

New Zinc Die Cast's price was the same as it was the week before. The price per tonne remained at $800 as of the week ended January 16, 2025.
