Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- January 10, 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly global market price trends for the different scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index over the one-week period between January 3 and January 9, 2025, are shown in the report that follows:

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a notable surge of 7.76% in the price of copper scrap.

North America

Over the past week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price increased by 7.55%. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing ended the day at $4.03 per pound, up 7.75% from the beginning of the week. Similarly, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had a $0.29 increase per pound, going from $3.64 to $3.93.

As of Thursday, January 9, 2025, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index increased by 7.55% throughout the week, from $3.84 to $4.13 per pound. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went up from $3.74 to $4.03 per pound during the previous week. By the conclusion of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had increased by 7.97% to $3.93 per pound.

USA Midwest

Over the past week, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright has increased by 7.75%. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing increased from $3.64 to $3.93 per pound at the conclusion of the week, a 7.97 increase. In the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category, the price of copper scrap increased by 8.19%. Over the course of the week, the price per pound increased from $3.54 to $3.83.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright increased by 7.32% during the week, from $3.96 to $4.25 per pound. This week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing's price increased slightly from $3.86 to $4.15 a pound. By the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had risen 7.71%, from $3.76 to $4.05 per pound.

China

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index experienced a slight increase during the previous week, which ended on January 9, 2025. The weekly closing price of the commodity was CNY 73,950 per MT, which was higher than the previous week's price of CNY 71,950 per MT. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing's price increased by 2.93% from the week before. Furthermore, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was up by 2.97% at the conclusion of the week, from CNY 67,250 per MT to CNY 69,250 per MT.

Europe

The weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright stayed at $6,000 per tonne from the week before. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing remained at $5,200 per tonne on the Index, unchanged from the previous week. Furthermore, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index did not change during the week ending January 9, 2025.

Brass Scrap Prices

The prices for brass scrap edged higher by 3.05% from the previous week.

North America

Red Brass went up from $2.37 to $2.44 per pound by the conclusion of the week. Yellow Brass also jumped on the Index. The price of the commodity increased from $2.22 to $2.29 per pound, a 3.15% increase.

Over the previous week, Red Brass's price rose by 2.95%. Toward the end of the week, Yellow Brass's price per pound also went up from $2.22 to $2.29.

USA Midwest

Red brass went from $2.35 to $2.42 per pound, a 2.98% increase from the week before. Additionally, Yellow Brass was up on Index. The commodity's price increased by 1.82%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was up 2.90% from the previous week at $2.48 a pound as of Thursday, January 9, 2025. In addition, Yellow Brass's price per pound rose just 1.79% over the previous week.

China

Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices increased slightly during the week ending January 9, 2025. The Index shows that Red Brass' price increased by CNY 300 per MT during the week, ending at CNY 38,000, while Yellow Brass' price increased by 0.86% during the week, from CNY 34,850 per MT to CNY 35,150 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded no variation over the previous week.

North America

E.C. Aluminum Wire's pricing remained unchanged from $1.12 per pound the week before. The price of 6063 Extrusions during the week ending January 9, 2025, was $0.87 per pound, the same as the week before. On the Index, the price of Old Cast remained stable at $0.73 a pound. Furthermore, UBC's prices were unchanged from the previous week.

Over the past week, E.C. Aluminum Wire's price remained flat on the Index. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions held steady during the week ending January 9, 2025. The Index indicated no variation in Old Cast pricing. Also, during the previous week, UBC's prices held steady at $0.74 per pound.

USA Midwest

Since a week ago, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has not changed. The commodity's price remained stable at $1.12 per pound last week. Meanwhile, the price of 6063 Extrusions remained constant from week to week. The ScrapMonster Index indicates that neither UBC nor Old Cast's prices changed from the previous week.

USA West Coast

Over the preceding week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire held steady at $$1.12 per pound. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of 6063 Extrusions were flat at $0.87 per pound. Over the course of the week, the prices of Old Cast in the Index witnessed no variatio. As of January 9, 2025, UBC's prices also held steady at $0.75 per Lb.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices were flat on the Index, unchanged at CNY 18,700 per MT. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions closed at CNY 17,600 per MT, recording no change from the previous week. The price of Old Cast witnessed no change on the Index as of January 9, 2025. UBC prices recorded week-on-week decline by 0.41%, finishing at CNY 12,200 per MT at the end of the week.

Europe

The price of Old Cast stayed at $1,050 per tonne for the entire week. Furthermore, UBC prices remained at $1,250 per tonne, the same as the previous week, according to the ScrapMonster Index.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded an increase of 1.59% over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An examination of 304 SS Solid pricing trend suggests that the price of the commodity went higher week-on-week. Over the week, the price of the commodity increased from $0.63 per Lb to $0.64 per Lb.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

The price of the #1 HMS hasn't moved in the past week. The price of the commodity stayed at $315 per MT. Furthermore, during the week, the price of shred auto scrap stayed constant at $365 per MT. As the previous week, the price of HMS 80/20 was $260 per MT. Furthermore, the price of #1 Busheling didn't change during the week.

Over the previous week, #1 HMS's prices have remained unchanged. During the week, Shredded Auto Scrap was also flat. The Index's HMS 80/20 pricing remained unchanged at $260 per MT. The week ending January 9, 2025, saw no change in the price of #1 Busheling.

USA West Coast

Over the previous week, there has been no change in the #1 HMS’s price. The commodity's price remained constant at $315 per MT. Additionally, rates for Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $365 per MT during the course of the week. HMS 80/20 pricing remained unchanged at $260 per MT from the previous week. Additionally, the price of #1 Busheling remained unchanged at $380 per MT throughout the week.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

There was no change in the price of #1 HMS during the course of the week; the ScrapMonster Index showed prices being constant at $170 per MT. Over the course of the week, Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $130 per MT from the previous week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The Scrap Auto Batteries pricing charts showed that the commodity's prices had not moved from the week before. The price per pound stayed steady at $0.22 for the entire week.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded a modest decline of 2.88% in prices week-on-week.

North America

New Zinc Die Cast's price dropped from $0.76 to $0.74 per pound, a 2.63% decrease from the previous week. Prices for Old Zinc Die Cast also decreased somewhat week over week. The commodity's closing price on Thursday, January 9, 2025, was $0.62 per pound.

New Zinc Die Cast's price was the same as it was the week before. The price per tonne remained at $800 as of the week ended January 9, 2025.
