Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- December 27, 2024

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly global market price trends for the various scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index from December 20 to December 26, 2024, are shown in the report that follows:

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a slight increase of 0.79% in the price of copper scrap.

North America

Over the preceding week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price increased by 0.77%. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing closed at $3.84 per pound, up marginally by 0.79% from the beginning of the week. Similarly, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing went higher by $0.03 per pound, from $3.71 to $3.74.

As of Thursday, December 26, 2024, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index inched higher by 0.77% during the week, rising from $3.81 to $3.84 per pound. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing recorded increase from $3.81 to $3.84 per pound during the week. By the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had edged higher by 0.81% to $3.74 per pound.

USA Midwest

Over the past week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price increased by 0.79%. At the end of the week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went up from $3.71 to $3.74 per pound, a 0.81% rise. Over the course of the week, the price of copper scrap in the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category edged higher marginally from $3.61 to $3.64 per pound.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright was up 0.74% over the course of the week, from $4.03 to $4.06 per pound. This week, the price per pound of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went higher from $3.93 to $3.96. At the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing increased by 0.78%, from $3.83 to $3.86 per pound.

China

The previous week, which concluded on December 26, 2024, saw a minor jump in the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index. The commodity's closing price for the week was CNY 73,050 per MT, up from CNY 72,850 per MT the week before. The price of #1 Copper Wire & Tubing edged higher by 0.29% from the previous week. Additionally, at the end of the week, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing went up by 0.29%, from CNY 68,150 per MT to CNY 68,350 per MT.

Europe

The weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright stayed at $6,000 per tonne from the week before. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index remained at $5,200 per tonne, unchanged from the previous week. Furthermore, there was no change in the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index during the week ending December 26, 2024.

Brass Scrap Prices

The prices for brass scrap increased by 0.44% from the previous week.

North America

The price of a pound of Red Brass had jumped from $2.38 to $2.39 by the end of the week. Yellow Brass also went higher on the Index. The price of the product went higher from $2.23 to $2.24 per pound, a 0.45% increase.

Over the previous week, Red Brass's price edged higher by 0.42%. Additionally, Yellow Brass's price per pound increased slightly toward the end of the week, from $2.23 to $2.24.

USA Midwest

The price of Red Brass was up 0.42% from the previous week, from $2.36 to $2.37 per pound. Yellow Brass was also up on Index. The price of the commodity increased by 0.45%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was up 0.41% from the previous week at $2.43 a pound as of Thursday, December 26, 2024. Yellow Brass's price per pound, nevertheless, increased by a slight 0.44% over the previous week.

China

The week ending December 26, 2024, saw a slight increase in the price of Red Brass and Yellow Brass. According to the Index, Red Brass's price went higher by CNY 50 per MT during the week, ending the week at CNY 37,900. In addition, the price of Yellow Brass was up by 0.14% over the week, from CNY 35,000 per MT to CNY 35,050 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded marginal increase by 1.19% over the previous week.

North America

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire saw slight increase by 0.88% during the previous week. In the week ending December 26, 2024, the price of 6063 Extrusions edged higher from $0.87 per pound the previous week to $0.88 per pound. The price of Old Cast on the Index increased slightly from $0.73 per pound the week before to $0.74 per pound. Furthermore, UBC's pricing increased by 1.35% from the week before.

Over the past week, E.C. Aluminum Wire's price increased by 0.88%. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions was up by 1.15% during the week ending December 26, 2024. The Index indicated a slight weekly increase in Old Cast pricing. Additionally, during the previous week, UBC's prices increased from $0.74 to $0.75 per pound.

USA Midwest

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has gone higher by 0.88% since a week ago. Last week, the price of the commodity closed at $1.14 per pound, up week-over-week by $0.01 per pound. In the meantime, 6063 Extrusions' price witnessed week-on-week increase by 1.18%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the prices of UBC and Old Cast recorded jump by 1.37% and 1.41% respectively over the previous week’s prices.

USA West Coast

Over the preceding week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire increased by 0.88%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of 6063 extrusions inched higher from $0.87 per pound the week before to $0.88 per pound. Over the course of the week, the prices of Old Cast in the Index were up by 1.35%. As of December 26, 2024, UBC's prices also increased by 1.33%.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices were down 1.06% on the Index at CNY 18,600 per MT. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions closed at CNY 17,500 per MT, a slight decrease of 1.13% from the previous week. The price of Old Cast had a minor decrease of 1.14% on the Index as of December 26, 2024. UBC prices recorded week-on-week decline by 0.41%, finishing at CNY 12,200 per MT at the end of the week.

Europe

For the whole week, the price of Old Cast remained at $1,050 a tonne. Additionally, according to the ScrapMonster Index, UBC prices were unchanged from the previous week at $1,250 a tonne.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded no change over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An analysis of 304 SS Solid pricing trend indicates that the price of the commodity registered no change week-on-week. Over the week, the price of the commodity remained unchanged at $0.64 per Lb.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported minor decline of 1.31% when compared with the previous week.

North America

Over the previous week, the #1 HMS's price has remained unchanged. The commodity's price remained steady at $315 per MT. In addition, the price of HMS 80/20 was $260 per MT, the same as the week before. However, the Shredded Auto Scrap prices recorded weekly decline by 2.67% over the week. In addition, #1 Busheling's price also were down by 2.56% during the week.

USA Midwest

#1 HMS's prices didn't change during the past week. At $260 per MT, the Index's HMS 80/20 pricing stayed the same. The price of Shredded Auto Scrap was down by 2.67% during the week. The price of #1 Busheling also recorded decline by 2.56% during the week ending December 26, 2024.

USA West Coast

The #1 HMS pricing did not change during the past week. The price of the commodity stayed steady at $315 per MT. As the previous week, HMS 80/20 prices stayed steady at $260 per MT. The prices for Shredded Auto Scrap dipped from $375 per MT to $365 per MT during the previous week. Furthermore, during the week, the price of #1 Busheling were down by 2.56%, closing at $380 per MT.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

There was no change in the price of #1 HMS during the course of the week. The ScrapMonster Index showed prices remaining constant at $170 per MT. Over the course of the week, Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $130 per MT from the previous week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The prices of the commodity had not changed from the previous week, according to the pricing charts for Scrap Auto Batteries. Throughout the week, the price per pound remained constant at $0.22.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded a modest increase of 1.44% in prices week-on-week.

North America

The price of New Zinc Die Cast increased by 1.32% over the previous week, from $0.76 to $0.77 per pound. Week-on-week, Old Zinc Die Cast prices likewise edged higher. As of Thursday, December 26, 2024, the closing price of the commodity was $0.65 a pound.
