Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- December 20, 2024

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The following report displays the weekly global market price patterns for the different scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index between December 13 and December 19, 2024:

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a slight decrease of 2.82% in the price of copper scrap.

North America

Over the preceding week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price decreased by 2.75 percent. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing closed at $3.79 per pound, down 2.82% from the beginning of the week. Similarly, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing went lower by $0.11 per pound, from $3.80 to $3.69.

As of Thursday, December 19, 2024, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index inched lower by 2.75% during the week, falling from $4.00 to $3.89 per pound. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing recorded decline from $3.90 to $3.79 per pound during the week. By the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had edged lower by 2.89% to $3.69 per pound.

USA Midwest

Over the past week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price declined by 2.82%. At the end of the week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went down from $3.80 to $3.69 per pound, a 2.89% decline. Over the course of the week, the price of copper scrap in the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category decreased marginally from $3.70 to $3.59 per pound.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright was down 2.67% over the course of the week, from $4.12 to $4.01 per pound. This week, the price per pound of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went lower from $4.02 to $3.91. At the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing decreased by 2.81%, from $3.92 to $3.81 per pound.

China

The previous week, which concluded on December 19, 2024, saw a minor decline in the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index. The commodity's closing price for the week was CNY 72,850 per MT, down from CNY 73,750 per MT the week before. The price of #1 Copper Wire & Tubing edged lower by 1.28% from the previous week. Furthermore, there was no change in the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index during the week ending December 19, 2024.

Brass Scrap Prices

The prices for brass scrap decreased by 0.86% from the previous week.

North America

The price of a pound of Red Brass had dropped from $2.40 to $2.38 by the end of the week. Yellow Brass also went lower on the Index. The price of the product fell from $2.25 to $2.23 per pound, a 0.89% decrease.

Over the previous week, Red Brass's price edged lower by 0.83%. Additionally, Yellow Brass's price per pound decreased slightly toward the end of the week, from $2.25 to $2.23.

USA Midwest

The price of Red Brass was down 0.84% from the previous week, from $2.38 to $2.36 per pound. Yellow Brass was also down on Index. The price of the commodity decreased by 0.90%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was down 0.82% from the previous week at $2.42 a pound as of Thursday, December 19, 2024. Yellow Brass's price per pound, nevertheless, decreased by a slight 0.88% over the previous week.

China

The week ending December 19, 2024, saw a slight decrease in the price of Red Brass and Yellow Brass. According to the Index, Red Brass's price fell by CNY 150 per MT during the week, ending the week at CNY 37,850. The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire dropped by 1.74% during the previous week. In the week ending December 19, 2024, the price of 6063 Extrusions dropped from $0.88 per pound the previous week to $0.87 per pound. The price of Old Cast on the Index decreased slightly from $0.74 per pound the week before to $0.73 per pound. Furthermore, UBC's pricing decreased by 1.33% from the week before.

Over the past week, E.C. Aluminum Wire's price decreased by 1.74%. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions decreased by 1.14% during the week ending December 19, 2024. The Index indicated a slight weekly decline in Old Cast pricing. Additionally, during the previous week, UBC's rates decreased from $0.75 to $0.74 per pound.

USA Midwest

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has gone down by 1.74% since a week ago. Last week, the price of the commodity closed at $1.13 per pound, down week-over-week by $0.02 per pound. In the meantime, 6063 Extrusions' price witnessed week-on-week decline by 1.16%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the prices of UBC and Old Cast recorded dip by 1.35% and 1.39% respectively over the previous week’s prices.

USA West Coast

Over the preceding week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire decreased by 1.74%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of 6063 extrusions decreased from $0.88 per pound the week before to $0.87 per pound. Over the course of the week, the prices of Old Cast in the Index fell by 1.33%. As of December 19, 2024, UBC's prices also decreased by 1.32%.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices were down 2.35% on the Index at CNY 18,700 per MT. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions closed at CNY 17,600 per MT, a slight decrease of 2.49% from the previous week. The price of Old Cast had a minor decrease of 2.52% on the Index as of December 19, 2024. UBC prices recorded week-on-week decline by 1.21%, finishing at CNY 12,200 per MT at the end of the week.

Europe

For the whole week, the price of Old Cast remained at $1,050 a tonne. Additionally, according to the ScrapMonster Index, UBC prices were unchanged from the previous week at $1,250 a tonne.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded decline by 3.03% over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An analysis of 304 SS Solid pricing trend indicates that the price of the commodity registered week-on-week decline by 3.03%. Over the week, the pricing edged lower from $0.66 per Lb to $0.64 per Lb.

USA Midwest

#1 HMS's prices didn't change during the past week. Shredded Auto Scrap was likewise flat during the week. At $260 per MT, the Index's HMS 80/20 pricing stayed the same. The price of #1 Busheling remained unchanged during the week ending December 19, 2024.

USA West Coast

The #1 HMS pricing did not change during the past week. The price of the commodity stayed steady at $315 per MT. At $380 per MT over the week, prices for shredded auto scrap also didn't change. As the previous week, HMS 80/20 prices stayed steady at $260 per MT. Furthermore, during the week, the price of #1 Busheling were unmoved at $390 per MT.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

There was no change in the price of #1 HMS during the course of the week; the ScrapMonster Index showed prices being constant at $170 per MT. Over the course of the week, Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $130 per MT from the previous week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The prices of the commodity had not changed from the previous week, according to the pricing charts for Scrap Auto Batteries. Throughout the week, the price per pound remained constant at $0.22.

The price of New Zinc Die Cast decreased by 2.56% over the previous week, from $0.78 to $0.76 per pound. Week-on-week, Old Zinc Die Cast prices likewise decreased. As of Thursday, December 19, 2024, the closing price of the commodity was $0.64 a pound.
