Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- December 13, 2024

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The following report displays the weekly global market price patterns for the different scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index between December 6 and December 12, 2024:

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a slight increase of 1.28% in the price of copper scrap.

North America

Over the preceding week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price increased by 1.25 percent. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing closed at $3.95 per pound, up 1.28% from the beginning of the week. Similarly, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing went up by $0.05 per pound, from $3.80 to $3.85.

As of Thursday, December 12, 2024, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index increased by 1.25% every week, from $4.00 to $4.05 per pound. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing increased from $3.90 to $3.95 per pound during the week. By the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had increased by 1.32% to $3.85 per pound.

USA Midwest

Over the past week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price increased by 1.28%. At the end of the week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went up from $3.80 to $3.85 per pound, a 1.32% rise. Over the course of the week, the price of copper scrap in the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category increased marginally from $3.70 to $3.75 per pound.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright was up 1.23% over the course of the week, from $4.07 to $4.12 per pound. This week, the price per pound of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went up from $3.97 to $4.02. At the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing increased by 1.29%, from $3.87 to $3.92 per pound.

China

The previous week, which concluded on December 12, 2024, saw a minor increase in the price of the #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index. The commodity's closing price for the week was CNY 74,500 per MT, up from CNY 73,550 per MT the week before. The price of #1 Copper Wire & Tubing edged higher 1.36% from the previous week. Additionally, at the end of the week, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing went up by 1.38%, from CNY 68,850 per MT to CNY 69,800 per MT.

Europe

The weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright stayed at $6,000 per tonne from the week before. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index remained at $5,200 per tonne, unchanged from the previous week. Furthermore, there was no change in the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index during the week ending December 12, 2024.

Brass Scrap Prices

The prices for brass scrap increased by 0.87% from the previous week.

North America

The price of a pound of Red Brass had increased from $2.39 to $2.41 by the end of the week. Yellow Brass was also higher on the Index. The price of the product increased from $2.24 to $2.26 per pound, a 0.89% increase.

Over the previous week, Red Brass's price rose by 0.84%. Additionally, Yellow Brass's price per pound increased slightly toward the end of the week, from $2.24 to $2.26.

USA Midwest

The price of Red Brass was up 0.84% from the previous week, from $2.37 to $2.39 per pound. Yellow Brass was also up on Index. The price of the commodity increased by 0.90%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was up 0.82% from the previous week at $2.45 a pound as of Thursday, December 12, 2024. Yellow Brass's price per pound, nevertheless, increased by a slight 0.88% over the previous week.

China

The week ending December 12, 2024, saw a slight increase in the price of Red Brass and Yellow Brass. According to the Index, Red Brass's price rose by CNY 150 per MT during the week, ending the day at CNY 38,100. In addition, the price of Yellow Brass rose by 0.43% over the week, from CNY 35,100 per MT to CNY 35,250 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded marginal decline by 1.37% over the previous week.

North America

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire dropped by 1.71% during the previous week. In the week ending December 12, 2024, the price of 6063 Extrusions dropped from $0.89 per pound the previous week to $0.88 per pound. The price of Old Cast on the Index decreased slightly from $0.75 per pound the week before to $0.74 per pound. Furthermore, UBC's pricing decreased by 1.32% from the week before.

Over the past week, E.C. Aluminum Wire's price decreased by 1.71%. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions decreased by 1.12% during the week ending December 12, 2024. The Index indicated a slight weekly decline in Old Cast pricing. Additionally, during the previous week, UBC's rates decreased from $0.76 to $0.75 per pound.

USA Midwest

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has gone down by 1.71% since a week ago. Last week, the price of the commodity closed at $1.15 per pound, down week-over-week by $0.02 per pound. In the meantime, 6063 Extrusions' price witnessed week-on-week decline by 1.15%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the prices of UBC and Old Cast recorded dip by 1.33% and 1.37% respectively over the previous week’s prices.

USA West Coast

Over the preceding week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire decreased by 1.71%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of 6063 extrusions decreased from $0.89 per pound the week before to $0.88 per pound. Over the course of the week, the prices of Old Cast in the Index fell by 1.32%. As of December 12, 2024, UBC's prices also decreased by 1.30%.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices were down 0.26% on the Index at CNY 19,250 per MT. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions closed at CNY 18,150 per MT, a slight decrease of 0.27% from the previous week. The price of Old Cast had a minor decrease of 0.28% on the Index as of December 12, 2024. UBC prices remained unchanged from the previous week, finishing at CNY 12,400 per MT on a weekly basis.

Europe

For the whole week, the price of Old Cast remained at $1,050 a tonne. Additionally, according to the ScrapMonster Index, UBC prices were unchanged from the previous week at $1,250 a tonne.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap showed no variation over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An analysis of 304 SS Solid pricing trend indicates that the price of the commodity has not changed from the previous week. Over the week, the pricing remained constant at $0.66 a pound.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

Over the previous week, the #1 HMS's price has remained unchanged. The commodity's price remained steady at $315 per MT. In addition, the cost of shredded auto scrap remained steady at $380 per MT over the week. The price of HMS 80/20 was $260 per MT, the same as the week before. In addition, #1 Busheling's price remained constant throughout the week.

USA Midwest

#1 HMS's prices didn't change during the past week. Shredded Auto Scrap was likewise flat during the week. At $260 per MT, the Index's HMS 80/20 pricing stayed the same. The price of #1 Busheling remained unchanged during the week ending December 12, 2024.

USA West Coast

The #1 HMS pricing did not change during the past week. The price of the commodity stayed steady at $315 per MT. At $380 per MT over the week, prices for shredded auto scrap also didn't change. As the previous week, HMS 80/20 prices stayed steady at $260 per MT. Furthermore, during the week, the price of #1 Busheling were unmoved at $390 per MT.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

There was no change in the price of #1 HMS during the course of the week; the ScrapMonster Index showed prices being constant at $170 per MT. Over the course of the week, Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $130 per MT from the previous week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The prices of the commodity had not changed from the previous week, according to the pricing charts for Scrap Auto Batteries. Throughout the week, the price per pound remained constant at $0.22.

The price of New Zinc Die Cast remained constant at $0.78 per pound throughout the past week. Additionally, Old Zinc Die Cast prices remained constant from week to week. As of Thursday, December 12, 2024, the closing price of the commodity was $0.66 a pound.

New Zinc Die Cast's price was the same as it was the week before. The price per tonne remained at $800.
