Scrap Metals- Weekly Market Report: August 30th, 2024

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly price trends of various scrap metal categories across worldwide markets for the past week (23^rd to 29^th August, 2024) on the Scrap Monster Price Index are provided below:

Copper Scrap Prices

Copper Scrap recorded marginal weekly increase in prices by 0.25%.

North America

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices witnessed nominal increase over the prior week, rising by 0.25%. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing too were marginally up by 0.25%, from the price of $3.95 per Lb at the start of the week to end the week at $3.96 per Lb. Similarly, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices went higher by 0.26%, rising from $3.65 per Lb to $3.85 per Lb to $3.86 per Lb.

USA East Coast

The prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright recorded weekly increase in prices by 0.25%, rising from $4.05 per Lb to $4.06 per Lb on the ScrapMonster Index. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, saw their prices increase from levels of $3.95 per Lb to $3.96 per Lb over the week. The prices of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing too were up by 0.26% to end the week at $3.86 per Lb.

USA Midwest

The prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright edged higher marginally by 0.25% over the prior week. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing too were up by 0.26%, from the price of $3.85 per Lb at the start of the week to end the week at $3.86 per Lb. Another copper scrap category to witness week-on-week increase in prices was #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, the prices of which rose from $3.75 per Lb to $3.76 per Lb over the week.

USA West Coast

The prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright recorded weekly increase in prices by 1.98%, reporting rise from $4.05 per Lb to $4.13 per Lb on the ScrapMonster Index. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, saw their prices jump higher from levels of $3.95 per Lb to $4.03 over the week. The prices of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing too were up by 2.08% to end the week at $3.93 per Lb, upon comparison with the opening price of $3.85 per Lb.

China

The prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright recorded marginal upside movement to CNY 73,150 per MT, upon comparison with the previous week’s price of CNY 72,450 per MT. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing too were up by 1.02% over the previous week. Also, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices increased by 1.04% to CNY 68,150 per MT on the Index.

Europe

The prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright witnessed no change from the prior week’s price of $6,000 per Tonne during the week. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing prices too were flat on the Index, maintaining the previous week’s price of $5,200 per Tonne. Also, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices held steady on the Index.

Brass Scrap Prices

Brass Scrap prices witnessed slight increase by 2.78% over the previous week.

North America

Red Brass prices witnessed increase over the previous week, rising from $2.24 per Lb to $2.30 per Lb. Yellow Brass too recorded modest increase in prices by 2.87%. The prices of the commodity recorded jump from $2.09 per Lb to $2.15 per Lb.

USA East Coast

The prices of Red Brass edged higher by 2.68%, from the previous week price of $2.24 per Lb to $2.30 per Lb as of Thursday, 29^th August, 2024. Also, Yellow Brass prices recorded increase by 2.87% over the previous week.

USA Midwest

Red Brass prices recorded marginal increase week-on-week, rising from $2.26 per Lb to end the week at $2.32 per Lb. Similarly, Yellow Brass prices went higher by 2.84% during the week.

USA West Coast

The prices of Red Brass recorded modest jump by 2.639% over the previous week. Yellow Brass too followed suit, rising by 2.80%, from $2.14 per Lb at the start of the week to close the week at $2.20 per Lb.

China

Both Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices witnessed marginal increase over the week. The prices of Red Brass increased from CNY 37,900 per MT to CNY 37,950 per MT. Also, Yellow Brass saw its prices rise by 0.14% from CNY 35,250 per MT to CNY 35,300 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

Aluminum Scrap prices posted modest decline by 1.60% during the prior week.

North America

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices recorded marginal decline over the previous week, falling by 2.65%. 6063 Extrusions prices edged lower, declining from $0.89 per Lb to $0.88 per Lb. Old Cast prices too were down by 1.32% when compared with the prior week. UBC prices recorded weekly dip by 1.30% on the Index over the prior week.

Aluminum Scrap Price Charts

USA East Coast

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices witnessed weekly decline in prices by 2.65%, witnessing fall from $1.13 per Lb to $1.10 per Lb. 6063 Extrusions, saw their prices dip from levels of $0.89 per Lb to $0.88 per Lb over the week. The prices of Old Cast too were down by 1.32% on the Index.  UBC prices too reported nominal decline by 1.30% on the ScrapMonster Index during the week.

USA Midwest

The prices of E.C. Aluminum Wire witnessed decline by 2.65% over the prior week. The prices of the commodity dropped from $1.13 per Lb to $1.10 per Lb during the past one-week period. Meantime, 6063 Extrusions, Old Cast and UBC prices too recorded decline during the week. The prices of 6063 Extrusions and Old Cast witnessed decline by 1.15% and 1.35% respectively, whereas UBC prices edged lower by 1.32% on the Index.

USA West Coast

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices recorded modest decline over the previous week, dropping by 2.65%. 6063 Extrusions prices were down by 1.12% on the ScrapMonster Index, from the previous week’s price of $0.89 per Lb. Old Cast recorded marginal dip in prices by 1.30% on the Index. UBC prices too witnessed more or less similar dip, falling by 1.28% over the prior week.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices edged lower marginally by 0.54% to end the week at $18,500 per MT. 6063 Extrusions witnessed decline by 0.57% in prices when compared with the previous week. The prices of Old Cast too were down by 0.58% on the Index. In the meantime, UBC prices witnessed marginal fall, in comparison with the previous week price of CNY 12,350 per MT.

Europe

The prices of Old Cast held steady at $1,050 per Tonne during the week. UBC prices too were flat, maintaining the previous week’s price of $1,250 per Tonne on the ScrapMonster Index.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap reported slight increase by 1.61% week-on-week.

North America

A study on the price patterns of 304 SS Solid suggests that the prices of the commodity recorded slight increase over the prior week. The prices edged higher from $0.62 per Lb to $0.63 per Lb during the week.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices were up slightly by 1.61% week-on-week, ending the week at $0.63 per Lb.

USA West Coast

The prices of 304 SS Solid recorded marginal increase by 1.61%, edging higher to touch the price of $0.63 per Lb during the week ended 29^th August, 2024.

China

304 SS Solid prices witnessed marginal jump over the week. The prices of the commodity reported increase from CNY 12,300 per MT to CNY 12,350 per MT, thus recording week-on-week increase by 0.41%.

Europe

The prices of 304 SS Solid witnessed no variation from the prior week’s price of $1,070 per Tonne during the week.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

#1 HMS prices witnessed no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity stood unchanged at $300 per MT. Shredded Auto Scrap too were flat, with prices reporting no change from $370 per MT during the week. Similarly, HMS 80/20 prices held on to their previous week’s prices of $250 per MT. Also, #1 Busheling prices were unchanged over the week.

USA East Coast

The prices of #1 HMS recorded no variation in prices during the week, with prices holding steady at $300 per MT on the ScrapMonster Index. Shredded Auto Scrap, saw their prices recording no change from the prior week’s level of $370 per MT over the week. The prices of HMS 80/20 too were flat at $250 per MT during the week. #1 Busheling prices too were flat on the Index.

USA Midwest

The prices of #1 HMS witnessed no change over the prior week. Shredded Auto Scrap too were flat during the week. At $250 per MT, the HMS 80/20 prices were unchanged on the Index. The prices of #1 Busheling posted no variation during the week ended 29^th August, 2024.

USA West Coast

#1 HMS prices recorded no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity held steady at $300 per MT. Shredded Auto Scrap too were stagnant, with prices reporting no change from $370 per MT during the week. HMS 80/20 prices held on to their previous week’s prices of $250 per MT. Also, #1 Busheling prices were unchanged over the week at $380 per MT.

China

#1 HMS prices witnessed no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity held steady at CNY 1,630 per MT.

Europe

The prices of #1 HMS recorded no variation in prices during the week, with prices holding steady at $170 per MT on the ScrapMonster Index. Shredded Auto Scrap witnessed no change from the prior week’s level of $130 per MT over the week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Lead Scrap prices held steady upon comparison with the prior week.

North America

An overview of the price charts of Scrap Auto Batteries indicates that the prices of the commodity recorded no change over the prior week. The prices held steady at $0.22 per Lb during the week.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded marginal jump by 1.46% in prices week-on-week.

North America

New Zinc Die Cast prices were up by 1.33% over the previous week, rising from $0.75 per Lb to $0.76 per Lb. Old Zinc Die Cast too recorded week-on-week increase in prices. The prices of the commodity stood at $0.64 per Lb as of Thursday, August 29^th.

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast registered nominal increase by 1.33% from the previous week price of $0.75 per Lb. Also, Old Zinc Die Cast prices went higher by 1.59% over the previous week.

USA Midwest

New Zinc Die Cast prices recorded increase by 1.33%, when compared with the previous week. The prices of Old Zinc Die Cast too were up by 1.59% to end the week at $0.64 per Lb.

USA West Coast

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast witnessed marginal jump from the previous week price of $0.75 per Lb. The commodity prices ended the week at $0.76 per Lb. Also, Old Zinc Die Cast prices rose by 1.59% on the Index.

Europe

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast reported no change during the prior week. The prices held steady at $800 per Tonne.
