Scrap Metals- Weekly Market Report: September 6th, 2024

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Below are the weekly price trends of different scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the most recent week (August 30 to September 6, 2024) across global markets:

Copper Scrap Prices

Prices for copper scrap had a slight weekly decrease of 1.52%.

North America

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices witnessed a nominal dip over the prior week, edging lower by 1.48%. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing saw a slight decrease of 0.25% in price as well, ending the week at $3.89 per pound after beginning the week at $3.95 per pound. Similarly, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices went lower by 1.56%, dropping from $3.85 per Lb to $3.79 per Lb.

USA East Coast

The prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright recorded a weekly decline in prices by 1.48%, falling from $4.05 per Lb to $3.99 per Lb on the ScrapMonster Index as of Thursday, September 5^th, 2024. #1 Copper Bare Bright prices decreased by 1.48% weekly, from $4.05 per pound to $3.99 per pound. During the week, the price of #1 copper wire and tubing dropped from $3.95 per pound to $3.89 per pound. The prices of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing too were down by 1.56% to end the week at $3.79 per Lb.

USA Midwest

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices showed a slight decrease of 1.52% over the previous week. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing saw a 1.56% decrease in price as well, ending the week at $3.79 per pound after beginning the week at $3.85 per pound. Another copper scrap category to witness a week-on-week decline in prices was #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, the prices of which fell from $3.75 per Lb to $3.69 per Lb over the week.

USA West Coast

The prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright recorded a weekly decline in prices by 1.46%, reporting a fall from $4.12 per Lb to $4.06 per Lb on the ScrapMonster Index. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing had a little decrease in price this week, going from $4.02 per pound to $3.96. The prices of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing too were down by 1.57% to end the week at $3.76 per Lb, upon comparison with the opening price of $3.82 per Lb.

China

When compared to the price of CNY 73,150 per MT the previous week, the prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright showed a slight decline to CNY 70,600 per MT. Over the prior week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing also had a 3.25% decrease. Additionally, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index decreased by 3.30% to CNY 65,900 per MT.

Europe

During the week, #1 Copper Bare Bright prices were unchanged from the previous week's $6,000 per tonne price. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing remained unchanged on the index, staying at $5,200 per tonne as of the previous week.  Also, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices held steady on the Index.

Brass Scrap Prices

Brass Scrap prices witnessed no change over the previous week.

North America

Red Brass prices remained steady at $2.30 per pound, unchanged from the previous week's price. Additionally, Yellow Brass was flat on the Index. The commodity's price remained constant at $2.15 per pound.

USA East Coast

The prices of Red Brass reported no change upon comparison with the previous week. Also, Yellow Brass prices were flat at $2.15 per Lb over the prior week.

USA Midwest

Red Brass witnessed a marginal decline over the previous week, with prices falling by 1.72% from $2.32 per Lb to $2.28 per Lb. Yellow Brass too was down on Index. The prices of the commodity recorded a decline of 1.84%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass's price, at $2.34 per pound, showed no variation from the previous week. Also, over the previous week, Yellow Brass prices remained unchanged at $2.20 per pound.

China

Both Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices witnessed a marginal decline over the week. The price of Red Brass reported a decline from CNY 37,950 per MT to CNY 37,550 per MT. Also, Yellow Brass saw its prices drop marginally by 1.13% from CNY 35,300 per MT to CNY 34,900 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

Aluminum Scrap prices posted a modest decline of 2.80% during the prior week.

North America

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices recorded a marginal decline over the previous week, falling by 3.64%. 6063 Extrusions prices edged lower, declining from $0.88 per Lb to $0.86 per Lb. Old Cast prices too were down by 2.67% when compared with the prior week. UBC prices recorded a weekly decline of 2.63% on the Index over the prior week.

Aluminum Scrap Price Charts

USA East Coast

Prices for E.C. aluminum wire fell by 3.64% weekly, from $1.10 to $1.06 per pound. Throughout the week, 6063 Extrusions' pricing decreased from $0.88 to $0.86 per pound. On the Index, Old Cast's prices decreased by 2.67%. On the ScrapMonster Index, UBC prices saw a nominal fall of 2.63% during the week.

USA Midwest

The prices of E.C. Aluminum Wire witnessed decline of 3.64% over the prior week. The prices of the commodity dropped from $1.10 per Lb to $1.06 per Lb during the past one-week period. Meantime, 6063 Extrusions, Old Cast and UBC prices also recorded a decline during the week. The prices of 6063 Extrusions, and Old Cast witnessed a decline of 2.23% and 2.74% respectively, whereas UBC prices edged lower by 2.67% on the Index.

USA West Coast

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices recorded a modest decline over the previous week, dropping by 3.64%. 6063 Extrusions prices were down by 2.27% on the ScrapMonster Index, from the previous week’s price of $0.88 per Lb. Old Cast recorded a marginal dip in prices by 2.63% on the Index. UBC prices too witnessed a more or less similar dip, falling by 2.60% over the prior week.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices edged lower modestly by 3.22% to end the week at $18,050 per MT. 6063 Extrusions witnessed a decline of 3.42% in prices when compared with the previous week. The prices of Old Cast too were down by 3.46% on the Index. In the meantime, UBC prices witnessed a marginal fall, in comparison with the previous week’s price of CNY 12,350 per MT.

Europe

The prices of Old Cast held steady at $1,050 per Tonne during the week. UBC prices too were flat, maintaining the previous week’s price of $1,250 per Tonne on the ScrapMonster Index.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap reported a slight decline of 3.17% week-on-week.

North America

Based on an analysis of 304 SS Solid price trends, it appears that the commodity saw a minor decrease in price from the previous week. Over the week, the prices decreased slightly, from $0.63 to $0.61 per pound.

The prices of 304 SS Solid recorded a dip of 3.17% over the previous week as of Thursday, September 5^th, 2024.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices were down slightly by 3.17% week-on-week, ending the week at $0.61 per Lb.

USA West Coast

The prices of 304 SS Solid recorded a marginal decline of 1.61%, inching lower to touch the price of $0.61 per Lb during the week ending September 5^th, 2024.

China

304 SS Solid prices witnessed a marginal fall over the week. The commodity's reported price dropped from CNY 12,350 per MT to CNY 12,100 per MT, representing a 2.59% weekly decrease.

Europe

The prices of 304 SS Solid witnessed no variation from the prior week’s price of $1,070 per Tonne during the week.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

#1 HMS prices witnessed no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity stood unchanged at $300 per MT. Shredded Auto Scrap too was flat, with prices reporting no change from $370 per MT during the week. Similarly, HMS 80/20 prices held on to their previous week’s prices of $250 per MT. Also, #1 Busheling prices were unchanged over the week.

USA East Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, #1 HMS's prices remained constant at $300 per MT during the week. Shredded Auto Scrap's prices for the week showed no change from $370 per MT the previous week. During the week, the price of HMS 80/20 was also fixed at $250 per MT. #1 Busheling prices on the Index were also unchanged.

USA Midwest

The prices of #1 HMS witnessed no change over the prior week. Shredded Auto Scrap too were flat during the week. At $250 per MT, the HMS 80/20 prices were unchanged on the Index. The prices of #1 Busheling posted no variation during the week ending September 5^th, 2024.

USA West Coast

#1 HMS prices recorded no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity held steady at $300 per MT. Shredded Auto Scrap too was stagnant, with prices reporting no change from $370 per MT during the week. HMS 80/20 prices held on to their previous week’s prices of $250 per MT. Also, #1 Busheling prices were unchanged over the week at $380 per MT.

China

#1 HMS prices witnessed no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity held steady at CNY 1,630 per MT.

Europe

The prices of #1 HMS recorded no variation in prices during the week, with prices holding steady at $170 per MT on the ScrapMonster Index. Shredded Auto Scrap witnessed no change from the prior week’s level of $130 per MT over the week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Lead Scrap prices held steady upon comparison with the prior week.

North America

The commodity's prices showed no change from the previous week, according to a review of the price charts for scrap auto batteries. During the week, the pricing remained constant at $0.22 per pound.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded a modest decline of 5.80% in prices week-on-week.

North America

New Zinc Die Cast prices were down by 5.26% over the previous week, falling from $0.76 per Lb to $0.72 per Lb. Old Zinc Die Cast too recorded a week-on-week decline in prices. The prices of the commodity closed at $0.60 per Lb as of Thursday, September 5^th, 2024.

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast registered a decline of 5.26% from the previous week’s price of $0.76 per Lb. Also, Old Zinc Die Cast prices went lower by 6.25% over the previous week.

USA Midwest

The price of New Zinc Die Cast decreased by 5.26% from the previous week. Old Zinc Die Cast saw a 6.25% price drop to $0.60 per pound by the end of the week.

USA West Coast

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast witnessed a modest decline from the previous week’s price of $0.76 per Lb. The commodity prices ended the week at $0.72 per Lb. Also, Old Zinc Die Cast prices fell by 6.259% on the Index.

Europe

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast reported no change during the prior week. The prices held steady at $800 per Tonne.
