SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based steelmaker, United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) announced key footprint actions taken during Q3 this year to balance steel supply with customer demand.
The company pulled forward a planned 30-day outage on blast furnace #3 at Mon Valley Works from October to September. It had begun the works on the blast furnace on 3rd September. It must be noted that the furnace has approximately 1.4 million net tons of raw steel capacity.
The company idled its blast furnace #8 at Gary Works temporarily, mainly on account of market conditions and continued high levels of imports. The blast furnace has approximately 1.5 million net tons of annual raw steel equivalent capability.
Also, U.S. Steel idled tin line #5 at Gary Works due to market conditions and elevated levels of tin product imports. The line has annual capability of approximately 140,000 net tons, said the company press release.
In the Europe region, the company pulled forward a planned 60-day outage on blast furnace #2 at U. S. Steel Kosice (USSK) from October to September. The works on the furnace had begun on 4th September. The blast furnace has an approximate raw steel equivalent capability of 1.7 million net tons per annum.
