SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded notable increase by 22.3% during the week ending on September 25, 2021, when matched with the comparable week in 2020. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.880 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 85.2%. It must be noted that the production had totalled only 1.537 million NT at a much lower capacity utilization rate of 68.6% during the corresponding week a year before. Also, the weekly crude steel production edged higher marginally by 0.3% over the prior week. The production was 1.874 million NT during the week ended September 18, 2021.
The cumulative output by steel mills in the country so far this year totalled 69.540 million NT through the week ending on September 25, 2021. This is up by 20.2% from the production which totalled 57.841 million NT during the same period in 2020. The capability utilization rate too recorded notable jump from 66.8% to 81.0% over the year.
The steel mills in the Southern region made 786,000 net tons of steel during the week. The output by the Great Lakes region totalled 650,000 net tons. The steel output volumes in the rest of Midwest stood at 202,000 net tons, followed by North East and Western regions, whose steel outputs amounted to 172,000 net tons and 70,000 net tons respectively.
