SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly trade statistics released by the US Census Bureau suggests that the US exports of copper waste and scrap surged higher by nearly 30% to touch $524.68 million during the initial two-month period of the year.
The top export destination of copper waste and scrap from the US was China. Nearly 59% of total US shipments were to China. The exports to China surged higher by 21% over the previous year to total $308.38 million.
Canada received $60.36 million worth copper waste and scrap from the US during Jan-Feb ’18. The country accounted for nearly 12% share of total US exports. The exports to Canada witnessed 34% jump year-on-year. In third place was Germany with imports from the US amounting to $26.78 million. The country registered sharp 58.2% jump in import volumes over the previous year. The other key importers were South Korea ($25.94 million) and Japan ($18.01 million).
The cumulative imports by the above five top-importing nations totaled $439.47 million out of $524.68 million, thereby representing nearly 84% of all exports by the US during the two-month period from January to February in 2018.
