TES Announced Opening of New Battery Recycling Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Singapore-headquartered TES announced opening of a new multi-million dollar facility for lithium battery recycling. The launch ceremony was attended by Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu along with other ministers, government officials, top company executives, leading industry partners and clients.

The TES B Plant is capable of recycling up to 14 metric tons, or the equivalent of 280,000 lithium-ion smartphone batteries per day. It uses a combination of mechanical equipment and hydrometallurgical processes to recover valuable metals such as nickel, lithium and cobalt. The facility is powered by a 1 megawatt per hour energy storage system (ESS), said the company press release.

The proprietary technology used at the facility guarantees recovery rate in excess of 90% and generates a purity level of nearly 99%.

The powerful shredders coupled with state-of-the-art separation technologies covert batteries into a black mass. The black mass undergoes chemical treatment, which results in the extraction of metals.
