SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): The Town of Telluride is partnering with Bruin Waste Management to bring curbside compost to town. The initiative focuses on local businesses, HOAs and schools, offering a weekly curbside pickup of organic waste on Fridays for Telluride residents. Members of the program will lease a compost bin to collect organic waste and Bruin will process the food waste at their partner facility, Delta Compost. Food scraps, including fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, coffee grounds, and other biodegradable materials are all accepted.
“We’re looking to set it up with HOAs and restaurants, but we’re really open to anyone,” Rob Kendall, who is leading the composting project at Bruin Waste Management, told the Planet. “The grant that we got gave us money to buy 64-gallon containers. And that was on purpose, because we wanted to be geared toward providing this service to commercial properties, which has not really been an option.”
The program is intended to be as easy as possible for Telluride residents and businesses. “Bruin is really open to being creative and working with folks and making this work for the Town. Bruin has its own sustainability goals, but this is very much us trying to provide a service that the town and our customers have asked for and the community is calling for,” Kendall said.
