SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Stora Enso declared that it has begun ramping up production of its new packaging board line at its facility in Oulo, Finland. By the second quarter of this year, the line is anticipated to make its first deliveries.
The company had made the decision earlier in 2022 to turn the site's remaining idle paper mill into a consumer packaging board line for coated unbleached kraft (CUK) and folding box board (FBB). An annual capacity of 750,000 tons is anticipated for the new line. According to the company's most recent declaration, the project is currently being finished on schedule and within the initial budget of about EUR 1 billion. By 2027, it is anticipated that the line would be fully loaded.
The ramp-up will increase the Oulo site's annual wood consumption by around 1 million cubic meters, to about 3.5 million cubic meters. The site will employ pulp from Stora Enso's Veracel site in Brazil and Enocell site in Finland in addition to local wood.
The new line would be the most cost-effective and modern in the whole European region, according to Hans Sohlstrom, President and CEO of Stora Enso. The Oulo site will become the company's largest production plant as a result of the investment. Additionally, it will allow the business to maximize output at its other locations, resulting in more profitable expansion.
