SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Stora Enso announced its decision to invest around EUR 79 million in a new cross laminated timber (CLT) production line at its Zdirec sawmill in the Czech Republic. The investment is aimed at further enhancing the company’s position as a market leader in CLT.
According to the company press release, the company has already received all necessary permits for the project. The construction is expected to commence during the first quarter of 2021 and the first production is scheduled for third quarter of 2022. Upon ramp-up, the production capacity is estimated at around 120,000 cubic metres. The investment is expected to generate annual sales of nearly EUR 70 million. Furthermore, it will create approximately 110 full-time jobs at the mill.

The investment in the latest technology will provide customers with premium products at a much reduced cost.
Lars Volkel, Executive Vice President, Stora Enso Wood Products division noted that the investment is in line with the company’s strategic integrated mill concept and that it would help in accelerating the growth within the mass timber construction market. It will enable the company to offer high-quality building solutions for its customers worldwide, he added.
