SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Union Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the Indian government has notified a new Steel Scrap Recycling Policy (SSRP). The policy aims to provide necessary framework for establishment of metal scrapping facilities in the country.
The SSRP provides standard guidelines for collection, dismantling and shredding of metal scrap in an organized, safe and environmentally sound way. It outlines guidelines for setting up and operating dismantling and scrap processing centres. Further, it describes the obligations of aggregators and manufacturers. As per the policy, government will not be responsible for setting up scrap centres. Rather, it will provide a framework for their establishment.
