SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced details of crude steel production by world countries during the month of September this year. The global output witnessed a decline by 3.7% during the month.
As per monthly statistics published yesterday, the global crude steel output totalled 151.7 million tons (Mt) in September 2022. This is down by 3.7% when compared with the same month a year before. The year-to-date output totalled 1,405.2 Mt, which is down by almost 4.3% from Jan-Sep ’21 output.

The largest steel producer was the Asia and Oceania region, which recorded an output of 113.0 Mt during the month. The regional output recorded significant increase by 10.6% from the prior year. The region’s cumulative steel output during the first three quarters of the year was down modestly by 2.9% to total 1,037.9 Mt.
In second place was the EU-27 countries, whose combined output totalled 10.7 Mt in September and 105.8 Mt in Jan-Sep ’22. The monthly and year-to-date steel output by the region recorded notable declines by 16.7% and 8.2% respectively.
The crude steel output by the Middle East region surged significantly by 15.4% in September 2022 to total 3.8 Mt. The Jan-Sep ’22 output too stood higher by 7.9% over the previous year. The Russia & Other CIS+ Ukraine region witnessed the largest fall in output year-on-year. The output by the region dropped by 21.9% to 6.7 Mt.
