Steel Industry, United Steelworkers Joined Hands to Crack Down on Unfair Trade Practices

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Several organizations representing the U.S. steel industry, along with the United Steelworkers urged action on legislation aimed at strengthening U.S. trade remedy laws to crack down on unfair trade practices. The representatives also called for enhancement of the enforcement tools needed to combat repeat offenders of the U.S. trade remedy laws.

The participants in the event included representatives from ArcelorMittal, Atkore, Cleveland-Cliffs, Metallus, Inc., North American Stainless, Nucor, Outokumpu, SSAB Americas, Steel Dynamics and Vallourec. The event was also represented by United Steelworkers
(USW) and the steel advocacy groups such as the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), Committee on Pipe and Tube Imports (CPTI) and the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA).

The attendees highlighted that dumped and subsidized steel from other countries, especially from China has caused severe harm to the American steel industry. They also applauded the introduction of the “Leveling the Playing Field 2.0 Act (LTPF), both in the House and in the Senate.

Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO, AISI highlighted the importance of strengthening the effectiveness of the U.S. trade laws to stop unfair trade practices.
