SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hartsville, South Carolina-headquartered global packaging major Sonoco has been selected as one of America’s Most Responsible Companies by Newsweek. The company was also awarded MSCI ESG “A” rating.
It must be noted that Sonoco is one among top 400 most responsible companies in the final list, selected from across 14 different industry subcategories. The selection is based on assessment of publicly available key performance indicators as well as on the basis of a survey among U.S. residents. The MSCI ESG rating, based on 37 ESG key demonstrates the company’s resilience to long-term ESG risks.

Commenting on the achievement, Elizabeth Rhue, staff vice president of Global Sustainability at Sonoco said that the company is pleased to have again received a Most Responsible Companies honor and an ‘A’ MSCI ESG rating. The company has tried to build businesses by doing the right thing by protecting the environment, she added.
In related news, Sonoco announced price increases for all rigid paper containers and closures sold in North America by 5%, effective mid-January 2021. The price hike is due to the rapid rise in costs for raw materials used in rigid paper container production. Incidentally, there has been a dramatic rise in cost of both steel and recovered paper.
