SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa announced that it has completed state-of-the-art technology investment at its Pruszkow corrugated plant in Poland. Further to the expansion, the plant has emerged as the company’s largest in Poland and one of the most high-tech plants in Europe.
As part of the €40 million expansion project, Smurfit Kappa has installed state-of-the-art machinery at the plant, which includes a new high-tech corrugator and a range of ultra-modern converting machinery. Also, a new finished goods warehouse has been built, which has the capacity to accommodate a minimum of at least 12,000 pallets.
The investment will boost the plant’s box production capacity to 500 million. It has increased the plant’s size to 37,500 square metre. Also, as many as 50 new jobs will be created as a result of the expansion project, thus making the total employment at the site to more than 250.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Jacek Nieweglowski, CEO of Smurfit Kappa North-East Europe noted that the company is delighted to officially unveil the new manufacturing plant. The project took just over one year to get completed, he added.
The expansion project demonstrates Smurfit Kappa’s strategic commitment to its business in Poland and Eastern Europe.
