SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Border Security Force (BSF) officials foiled attempts by an Indian national to smuggle gold from Bangladesh. The smuggled gold was seized and the person arrested.
The official BSF press release said that its troops at Border Out Post Khanjipur had received information that the smuggler had left in a bus. The above said bus was stopped by the troops at the Kanaikuli bus stop. The smuggler was nabbed during the search. Upon thorough search, the troops recovered 15 gold biscuits from him, it said.

The smuggler has been identified as 36-year old Hanif Mandal. The gold biscuits recovered from him weighed around 1,749.18 grams and were worth nearly INR 90 lakh, as per the prevailing market rate of the yellow metal. The smuggler as well as the seized gold has been handed over to the Customs Office, Tihatta.
In a separate incident, a foreign national was arrested at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad for trying to smuggle foreign-origin gold. The passenger from Jeddah was found hiding 248 grams of undeclared gold worth approximately INR 13 lakh inside his checked-in baggage.
Also, customs officials arrested two persons for smuggling gold weighing almost 1 kilogram worth around INR 44 lakh at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) in Delhi.
