Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report (September 27, 2024)

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast registered an increase of 5.13% from the previous week’s price of $0.78 per Lb.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly global market price trends of the various scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the most recent week (September 20–September 26, 2024) are provided below:

 

Copper Scrap Prices

Prices for copper scrap reported a modest weekly increase of 6.88%.

North America

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices witnessed a modest increase over the prior week, edging higher by 6.71%. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing saw a 6.88% increase, ending the week at $4.35 per pound as opposed to $4.07 at the beginning. Similarly, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices went higher by $0.28 per Lb, rising from $3.97 per Lb to $4.25 per Lb.

USA East Coast

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, the prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright registered a weekly increase of 6.17%, moving up from $4.17 per pound to $4.45 per pound on the ScrapMonster Index. Over the course of the week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing increased in price from $4.07 to $4.35 per pound. By the end of the week, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was $4.25 per pound, recording a 7.05% rise in price.

USA Midwest

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices showed an increase of 6.88% over the previous week. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing saw a 7.05% increase in price as well, ending the week at $4.25 per pound after beginning the week at $3.97 per pound. Another copper scrap category to witness a week-on-week rise in prices was #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, the prices of which jumped from $3.87 per Lb to $4.15 per Lb over the week.

USA West Coast

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright grew by 6.60% over the course of the week, moving up from $4.24 to $4.52 per pound, according to the ScrapMonster Index. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went up in price this week, from $4.14 to $4.42 per pound. The price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing went up 6.93% from the opening price of $4.04 per pound to $4.32 per pound by the end of the week.

China

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices showed a modest increase to CNY 76,800 per MT as compared to the previous week's price of CNY 74,850 per MT. Over the prior week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing also recorded a 2.74% increase. Additionally, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index went higher by 2.78% to CNY 72,100 per MT.

Europe

#1 The weekly price of copper bare bright was $6,000 per tonne, unchanged from the previous week. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing's price on the Index remained steady at $5,200 per tonne as of the previous week. Furthermore, the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing Index price did not change.

 

Brass Scrap Prices

Brass Scrap prices witnessed marginal increase of 3.46% over the previous week.

North America

Red brass prices increased from $2.39 per pound to $2.47 per pound by the end of the week. Yellow Brass was also up on the Index. The price of the commodity increased, from $2.24 to $2.32 per pound, or 3.57%.

USA East Coast

The prices of Red Brass reported an increase of 3.35% upon comparison with the previous week.In addition, the price of Yellow brass increased slightly from $2.24 to $2.32 per pound by the end of the week.

USA Midwest

Red Brass had a slight increase in price from $2.37 per pound to $2.45 per pound, or 3.38% more than the previous week. Yellow Brass too was up on Index. The prices of the commodity recorded an increase of 3.60%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was selling for $2.51 per pound as of Thursday, September 26, 2024, 3.29% higher than the previous week. In addition, over the previous week, Yellow Brass's price per pound increased by $3.49%.

China

Prices for Red Brass and Yellow Brass increased slightly during the course of the week. Red Brass was reported to have increased in price from CNY 38,100 per MT to CNY 38,350 per MT. Additionally, Yellow Brass had a slight increase in price of CNY 35,450 per MT to CNY 35,700 per MT, or 0.71%.

 

Aluminum Scrap Prices

Aluminum Scrap prices held steady on the Index during the previous week.

North America

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices recorded no change over the previous week. Comparing the price of 6063 Extrusions to the previous week's price, there was little change during the week ending September 26, 2024. On the Index, Old cast prices remained flat. Also, UBC's prices showed no variation from the prior week.

USA East Coast

At $1.14 per pound, E.C. Aluminum Wire prices did not report any fluctuation on a weekly basis. The price of 6063 Extrusions remained the same during the week. Old Cast's prices did not change on the Index. When compared to the previous week, UBC pricing also showed no rise.

USA Midwest

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices were flat from the previous week. Over the previous week, the commodity's prices held steady at $1.14 per pound. Meanwhile, 6063 Extrusions recorded no change in weekly pricing. On the ScrapMonster Index, the prices of UBC and Old Cast witnessed no change, in comparison with the week before.

USA West Coast

Prices for E.C. Aluminum Wire did not change from the prior week. When compared to the $0.91 per pound price from the previous week, the ScrapMonster Index showed no change in the price of 6063 extrusions. On the Index, Old Cast did not report any price changes. Prices of UBC also stayed the same as of September 26, 2024.

China

Prices for E.C. Aluminum Wire finished the week at $18,950 per MT, registering a little increase of 0.26%. The prices of 6063 Extrusions increased by 0.28% over the previous week. On the Index, Old Cast's prices increased by 0.28% as well. In the meantime, UBC prices saw a slight dip of CNY 50 per MT over the price of CNY 12,350 per MT from the previous week.

Europe

The prices of Old Cast held steady at $1,050 per Tonne during the week. UBC prices too were flat, maintaining the previous week’s price of $1,250 per Tonne on the ScrapMonster Index.

 

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap showed a weekly increase of 1.59%.

North America

An examination of 304 SS Solid pricing patterns indicates that the commodity's prices rose somewhat from the prior week. There was a $0.01 increase in the price per pound during the week.

The prices of 304 SS Solid recorded nominal jump by 1.59% over the previous week as of September 26, 2024. The prices during the week increased from $0.63 per Lb to $0.64 per Lb.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices were up marginally, to end the week at $0.64 per Lb.

USA West Coast

The price of 304 SS Solid for the week ending September 26, 2024, increased marginally by 1.59% over the previous week's price of $0.63 per pound.

China

304 SS Solid prices witnessed marginal increase over the week. The prices of the commodity reported increase from CNY 12,200 per MT to CNY 12,250 per MT, thus recording week-on-week increase by 0.41%.

Europe

The prices of 304 SS Solid witnessed no variation from the prior week’s price of $1,070 per Tonne during the week.

 

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported marginal decline by 0.34% when compared with the previous week.

North America

The #1 HMS pricing from the prior week remained unchanged. The product continued to be offered at $300 per MT. Over the course of the week, the price for Shredded Auto Scrap decreased somewhat by $5 per MT. HMS 80/20 pricing, meanwhile, stayed the same as the prior week at $250 per MT. The price for #1 Busheling remained constant during the week.

According to the ScrapMonster Index, #1 HMS's prices remained constant at $300 per MT during the week. Shredded Auto Scrap's prices for the week showed nominal decline of 1.35% from the previous week. During the week, the price of HMS 80/20 was also fixed at $250 per MT. #1 Busheling prices on the Index were also unchanged.

USA Midwest

#1 HMS's prices from the prior week did not alter. Over the week, Shredded Auto Scrap saw a 1.35% decrease. At $250 per MT, the HMS 80/20 pricing on the Index did not change. The price of #1 Busheling did not fluctuate for the week ending September 26, 2024.

USA West Coast

#1 HMS prices recorded no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity held steady at $300 per MT. Shredded Auto Scrap was down marginally by 1.35%, falling from $370 per MT at the start of the week to $365 per MT as of September 26, 2024. HMS 80/20 prices held on to their previous week’s prices of $250 per MT. Also, #1 Busheling prices were unchanged over the week at $380 per MT.

China

#1 HMS prices witnessed no change over the prior week. The prices of the commodity held steady at CNY 1,630 per MT.

Europe

The ScrapMonster Index shows that #1 HMS's prices stayed steady at $170 per MT for the duration of the week. The price of Shredded Auto Scrap remained at $130 per MT from the previous week.

 

Lead Scrap Prices

Lead Scrap prices held steady upon comparison with the prior week.

North America

The commodity's prices showed no change from the previous week, according to a review of the price charts for scrap auto batteries. During the week, the pricing remained constant at $0.22 per pound.

USA Midwest

Scrap Auto Batteries prices were flat on the ScrapMonster Index at $0.22 per Lb during the week.

There was no change in the price of scrap auto batteries from the $0.22 per pound price that was noted at the start of the week.

China

Over the past week, auto battery prices have somewhat decreased. As of Thursday, September 26, 2024, the prices of the commodity saw a decrease from CNY 6,950 per MT to CNY 6,900 per MT at the conclusion of the week.

Europe

The prices of Scrap Auto Batteries witnessed no variation from the prior week’s price of $820 per Tonne during the week.

 

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded a modest increase of 5.60% in prices week-on-week.

North America

Prices for New Zinc Die Cast increased from $0.78 per pound to $0.82 per pound, a gain of 5.13% over the previous week. Prices for Old Zinc Die Cast also increased week over week. The commodity's price as of Thursday, September 26, 2024, closed at $0.70 per pound.

New Zinc Die Cast is now more expensive than it was the week before, at $0.78 per pound. The weekly closing price of the commodity was $0.82 per pound. Additionally, the Index showed a 6.06% increase in the price of Old Zinc Die Cast.

Europe

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast reported no change during the prior week. The prices held steady at $800 per Tonne.
