Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- February 21, 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The following report provides the weekly global market price trends for the various scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the week of February 14–February 20, 2025:

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a modest decline of 1.36% in the price of copper scrap.

North America

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright edged lower by 1.33% in the last week. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing was down 1.36% from the start of the week, closing the week at $4.36 a pound. Likewise, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing decreased by $0.06 per pound, from $4.32 to $4.26.

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index decreased by 1.33% for the week, from $4.52 to $4.46 per pound, as of Thursday, February 20, 2025. Over the past week, the price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing declined from $4.42 to $4.36 per pound. By the end of the week, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was selling for $4.26 per pound, a slight decline of 1.39%.

USA Midwest

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright has edged lower by 1.36% in the last week. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing saw a marginal 1.39% dip at the end of the week, going down from $4.32 to $4.26 per pound. The price of copper scrap in the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category witnessed a decline of 1.42%. The price per pound dropped from $4.22 to $4.16 during the week.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright decreased by 1.32% during the week, from $4.55 to $4.49 per pound. This week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing's price edged lower slightly from $4.45 to $4.39 a pound. By the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had recorded a decline of 1.38%, from $4.35 to $4.29 per pound.

China

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index experienced a slight decline during the previous week, which ended on February 20, 2025. The weekly closing price of the commodity was CNY 76,600 per MT, which was lower than the previous week's price of CNY 76,850 per MT. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing's price slipped by 0.34% from the week before. Furthermore, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was down by 0.35% at the conclusion of the week, falling from CNY 72,150 per MT to CNY 71,900 per MT.

Europe

From the previous week, the weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright remained at $6,000 per tonne.  On the Index, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing was unchanged from the previous week at $5,200 per tonne. Additionally, during the week ending February 20, 2025, there was no change in the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index.

Brass Scrap Prices

The prices for brass scrap inched lower by 0.80% from the previous week.

North America

Red Brass went down from $2.58 to $2.56 per pound by the conclusion of the week. Yellow Brass also decreased on the Index. The price of the commodity recorded a decline from $2.43 to $2.41 per pound, a 0.82% drop.

Over the previous week, Red Brass's price decreased by 0.78%. Toward the end of the week, Yellow Brass's price per pound also went lower from $2.43 to $2.41.

USA Midwest

Red Brass prices went down from $2.56 to $2.54 per pound, a marginal 0.78% decrease from the week before. Additionally, Yellow Brass prices dropped on the Index. The commodity's price edged lower by 0.84%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was down 0.76% from the previous week at $2.60 a pound as of Thursday, February 20, 2025. In addition, Yellow Brass's price per pound declined 0.83% over the previous week.

China

Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices witnessed no change during the week ending February 20, 2025. The Index shows that Red Brass' price held steady at CNY 38,500, while Yellow Brass' price remained unchanged at CNY 35,650 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded marginal increase of 2.43% over the previous week.

North America

E.C. Aluminum Wire's pricing increased by 2.52% from $1.19 per pound the week before to $1.22 per pound. The price of 6063 Extrusions during the week ending February 20, 2025, was up by 2.15% from the week before. On the Index, the price of Old Cast recorded a jump of 2.53%. Furthermore, UBC's prices edged higher by 2.50% week-on-week.

Over the past week, E.C. Aluminum Wire's price witnessed an increase of 2.52% on the Index. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions was up by 2.15% during the week ending February 20, 2025. The Index indicated 2.53% jump in Old Cast pricing. Also, during the previous week, UBC's prices increased by 2.50%, from $0.80 per Lb to $0.82 per Lb.

USA Midwest

Since a week ago, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has increased by 2.52%. The commodity's price ended the week at $1.22 per pound last week. Meanwhile, the price of 6063 Extrusions recorded an increase of 2.20% over the previous week. The ScrapMonster Index indicates that both UBC and Old Cast's prices increased marginally by 2.53% and 2.60% respectively from the previous week.

USA West Coast

Over the preceding week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire jumped by 2.52% to $$1.22 per pound. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of 6063 Extrusions were up by 2.15% on the Index. Over the course of the week, the prices of Old Cast in the Index recorded an increase of 2.50%. As of February 20, 2025, UBC's prices also recorded a marginal increase of 2.47% to close the week at $0.83 per Lb.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices were flat on the Index, staying at CNY 19,600 per MT. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions remained unchanged at CNY 18,500 per MT, when compared with the previous week. The price of Old Cast witnessed no change on the Index as of February 20, 2025. UBC prices held constant, staying flat at the previous week’s price of CNY 12,600 per MT.

Europe

The price of Old Cast held constant at $1,050 per tonne for the entire week. Furthermore, UBC prices remained at $1,250 per tonne, the same as the previous week, according to the ScrapMonster Index.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded a marginal increase of 1.64% over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An analysis of 304 SS Solid pricing trend indicates that the commodity's price recorded an increase of 1.64% over the prior week. The commodity's price was up from $0.61 per pound a week before to $0.62 per pound to end the week.

The price of 304 SS Solid were up marginally during the previous week, which concluded on February 20, 2025. The price of the commodity closed at $0.62 per pound.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices recorded a jump from $0.61 per Lb to $0.62 per Lb during the previous week.

USA West Coast

For the week ending February 20, 2025, the price of 304 SS Solid was up by 1.64%.

China

Over the course of the week, the price of 304 SS Solid witnessed a minor decline. The reported price of the product decreased by CNY 50 per MT to close at CNY 11,950 per MT during the week ended February 20, 2025.

Europe

From the price of $1,070 per ton the week before, the price of 304 SS Solid remained constant.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

Over the previous week, the #1 HMS's price has remained unchanged. The commodity's price remained steady at $350 per MT. In addition, the price of Shredded Auto Scrap remained steady at $405 per MT over the week. The price of HMS 80/20 was $280 per MT, the same as the week before. In addition, #1 Busheling's price remained constant throughout the week.

The ScrapMonster Index indicates that #1 HMS's prices stayed steady during the week at $350 per MT. The weekly pricing for Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged from $405 per MT the week before. The price of HMS 80/20 was set at $280 per MT for the duration of the week. The Index's #1 Busheling prices remained constant as well.

USA Midwest

#1 HMS's prices didn't change during the past week. Shredded Auto Scrap was likewise flat during the week. At $275 per MT, the Index's HMS 80/20 pricing stayed the same. The price of #1 Busheling remained unchanged during the week ending February 20, 2025.

USA West Coast

The #1 HMS pricing did not change during the past week. The price of the commodity stayed steady at $350 per MT. At $405 per MT over the week, prices for Shredded Auto Scrap also didn't change. As the previous week, HMS 80/20 prices stayed steady at $280 per MT. Furthermore, during the week, the price of #1 Busheling were unmoved at $415 per MT.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

There was no change in the price of #1 HMS during the course of the week; the ScrapMonster Index showed prices being constant at $170 per MT. Over the course of the week, Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $130 per MT from the previous week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The Scrap Auto Batteries pricing charts showed that the commodity's prices had not moved from the week before. The price per pound stayed steady at $0.22 for the entire week.

Europe

The price per ton of Scrap Auto Batteries remained at $820 throughout the week, unchanged from the previous week.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded no variation in prices week-on-week.

North America

The price of New Zinc Die Cast held steady at $0.75 per Lb over the previous week. Week-on-week, Old Zinc Die Cast prices likewise witnessed no change. As of Thursday, February 20, 2025, the closing price of the commodity was $0.63 a pound.

Europe

New Zinc Die Cast's price was the same as it was the week before. The price per tonne remained at $800.
