SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. has been recognized as one of the 2019 World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute in the Metals, Minerals & Mining category. This is the fifth consecutive year that the company is being selected for the prestigious honor. It must be noted that Tata Steel India is the only other honoree in the above category. Altogether, 128 companies from across the world were awarded for their efforts in advancing the standards of ethical business practices.
Tamara Lundgren, President and Chief Executive Officer noted that the prestigious distinction is recognition for its employee’s commitment to act ethically, safely and sustainably. Furthermore, she thanked and congratulated all of its employees for their sustained efforts in making the company the proud receiver of the award for fifth year in a row. Timothy Erblich, Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer too congratulated Schnitzer Steel employees for earning the top industry recognition.
Callie Pappas, Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer reiterated the company’s commitment to raising the bar on ethical leadership and action in all aspects of its business. The recognition is a testament to the integrity, inclusiveness and can-do spirit of its workforce, he added.
The winners are judged based upon the Ethisphere’s Ethics Quotient framework. The quantitative way to assess company’s performance generates scores in five key categories-ethics and compliance program, culture of ethics, corporate citizenship and responsibility, governance and leadership and reputation.
