SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Portland, Oregon-based Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. announced that it has purchased the operating assets of Encore Recycling LLC in the greater Atlanta Metro area. The acquisition adds two full-service recycling facilities, including a metal shredding operation and recycled auto-parts center to Schnitzer’s operating model. The transaction concluded on April 29th, 2022.
The recent acquisition follows Schnitzer’s acquisition of eight recycling facilities from Columbus Recycling in 2021. It expands the company’s Southeastern regional footprint to 24 recycling facilities across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The integration of Encore’s assets will help it to provide additional products, services, and logistics solutions to customers and suppliers across the Southeast.
Established in 2013, Encore purchases and processes end-of-life vehicles and appliances, in addition to ferrous and nonferrous materials. Its recycled products are sold to steel mills and foundries throughout the Southeast. During the previous year, Encore facilities processed approximately 90,000 ferrous tons, 14 million nonferrous pounds, and 20,000 end-of life vehicles.
Tamara Lundgren, Chairman and CEO, Schnitzer Steel Industries noted that the acquisition will expand its platform and offerings in the robust Southeast market.
