The cans are being manufactured using aluminium from Rio Tinto, making use of state-of-the-art ELYSIS technology- the new revolutionary way to make aluminum that eliminates all direct greenhouse gases. As part of the pilot project, 1.2 million cans have already been produced. These cans inspire consumers to learn more about the low carbon footprint, said the company press release.
The pairing of recycled aluminum with Rio Tinto’s low-carbon aluminum and metal produced using ELYSIS smelting technology would result in 30% reduction in carbon emissions in aluminum cans produced in North America.
Andrew Oosterhuis, Marketing Vice President, Corona Canada noted that the introduction of market-leading technologies in the beverage space will help to innovate and drive meaningful change in the environment. Meantime, Tolga Egrilmezer, Head of Sales and Marketing at Rio Tinto said that the specially-marked aluminum cans bring together renewable hydropower and the innovation of zero carbon ELYSIS smelting technology.
