SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Charlotte, North Carolina-based recycler of PET resins Dak Americas LLC has announced plans for major expansion plans at its Richmond, Indiana plant facility.
According to company news release, it plans to invest approximately $32 million in expanding the facility, which it had acquired during February 2019. The works are expected to complete by 2021. The expansion, involving new equipment and machinery, is expected to significantly boost the plant’s capacity. Furthermore, it will create as many as 30 full-time jobs in the region.
The expansion project anticipates government support through an Economic Development Income Tax (EDIT) grant of $140,000 from the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Wayne, County, Indiana, the application of which will be forwarded to Wayne County Commissioners for approval. In addition, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered up to $270,000 in conditional tax credits.
Antonio Garza, global vice president of PET recycling at Dak Americas LLC stated that the modernization works at the facility will help in establishing a true circular economy. The waste PET bottles will be converted into rPET, which in turn will be used in production of new bottles.
