ReMA Underscores the Critical Role Played by U.S. Copper Recycling

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In a new filing, the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) emphasized how vital copper recycling is to the nation's economy, domestic manufacturing sector, and national security. In accordance with Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1964, the formal comments were submitted in response to the U.S. Department of Commerce's national security investigation into copper imports.

ReMA stated in the submission that it fully supports the U.S. Administration's initiatives to guarantee a strong copper industry in the United States. Simultaneously, it expressed opposition to limitations on recycled copper exports and trade restrictions.

Copper Recycling Increases as Demand Soars

According to ReMA, the U.S. industry exported around $27.7 billion worth of recycled materials last year, citing figures from the U.S. International Trade Commission. In addition to improving the nation's trade balance, exports have increased its influence, power, and reach. Compared to other items, recycled materials make up a far larger portion of U.S. exports.

The hallmark of American economic strength has been the existence of American industries in export markets. It asserted that ReMA members have remained a significant factor in the nation's growing exports.

ReMA, which has its headquarters in Washington, D.C., represents approximately 1,700 businesses in the United States and more than 40 other countries.
