SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): PureCycle Technologies, Inc. announced its decision to open a new plastic recycling prep facility in Winter Garden, Central Florida. The facility will boost the volume of recycled plastic, by sorting and processing No.5 plastic (polypropylene plastic). The facility, located at 851 East Maple St. will be capable of processing other plastics which could be sold directly to third-party processors.
The setting up of Florida prep facility is part of the company’s efforts to boost the volume of plastic that gets recycled curbside, thereby preventing plastic from ending up in waterways, landfills and environment. It will help the company secure regional polypropylene plastic waste, which serves as the primary feedstock in the manufacture of resins. The facility will increase the volume of plastic that can ultimately be recycled.
Mike Otworth, CEO, PureCycle noted that only less than 1% of polypropylene is recycled across the world. The company’s unique purification process will transform #5 plastic waste into an infinitely sustainable material. The plant will open up doors for recycling of discarded plastic material, he added.
Nicole Wilson, Commissioner, Orange County said that he is thrilled that the Orange County company is investing in their hometown, helping it to become more sustainable.
