SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Plastipak Packaging Inc. announced its decision to construct a new recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) recycling plant. The new plant will be built alongside its manufacturing site in Toledo, Spain. The proposed recycling plant will process rPET to produce food-grade rPET pellets, which in turn will be used to manufacture various new products.
The location of the plant at the company’s existing facility will lead to significant carbon savings by eliminating the need for transporting resins from one site to another. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 20,000 metric tons of food-grade pellets. Plastipack expects production to commence at the recycling facility in summer next year. Upon completion, the plant is expected to create additional 14 jobs, said the company press release.

This will be the company’s fifth global location, which will reaffirm its position as Europe’s largest producer of bottle-grade rPET. The company has three facilities in Europe, located in France, Luxembourg and the UK. It also operates another recycling plant in Dundee, Michigan.
Jack Pacente, vice president of global sustainability, Plastipack said that the company is delighted to announce significant investment in the growing Spanish market.
