Petition Seeks Relocation of American Iron and Metal Scrapyard

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Lewisville area residents demanded relocation of scrapyard operated by American Iron and Metal (AIM). A group of residents have presented a petition at Moncton City Council meeting held yesterday night. The petition calls for relocation of the AIM Tri-Province scrapyard to a Heavy Industrial Zoned area.

The petition alleged that the presence of American Iron and Metal Works has become an unbearable nuisance for families in the Lewisville area of Moncton. The families are forced to endure significant increase in dangerous and noxious fumes from propane tanks. The size of metal piles in the scrap yard has almost tripled. The banging and crashing operations often starts even before 7 AM and continues until 10 PM. The residents also raised fears of potential fire emanating from the scrap metal piles.

The situation is detrimental to their quality of life. The prolonged exposure to harmful pollutants from the scrapyard poses serious health risks. The train used to offload and pick up the products often blocks Mill Road and creates gridlock around Elmwood drive at Mill Road and Pleasant Street at Mill Road.

The petition urged the City Council, the New Brunswick government, The Ministry of Environment and Local Government (ELG) to take immediate action to relocate the scrapyard away from residential areas.
