PepsiCo Latin America Reinforces Commitment to Invest in Plastic Recycling

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Soft drinks major PepsiCo Latin America announced plans to invest in promoting plastic recycling in the region. It aims to have all of its packaging to be 100% recyclable by 2025.

Commenting on the company’s recycling efforts in the region, Erick Scheel, president of PepsiCo Latin America Beverages noted that it aims to incorporate more recycled content into its packaging. For instance, it already runs a program in several countries in the region, by which the consumers are allowed to return RECO bottles in stores. These bottles will be recycled to produce new bottles.

Since 2018, PepsiCo and The PepsiCo Foundation have committed investments of over $65 million in various initiatives intended to boost waste collection and recycling rates. It has achieved significant reduction in weight of PET bottles and notable dip in use of virgin plastics across its beverage portfolio.

The company has joined forces with various private sector and international organizations to launch a circular economy program in support development of inclusive recycling system in the region. Since its launch, it has extended support to nearly 20,000 recyclers and collected 5.4 million tons of waste.
