SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Colorado-headquartered packaging producer Ball Corp. announced plans to build a new aluminum beverage can manufacturing plant in Pittston, Pennsylvania. The multi-line plant is being built at an investment of nearly $300 million, with production expected to begin in mid-2021.
The decision comes amidst reports of shortage in aluminum cans across the country and surge in beverage consumption by U.S. households. Several mid-sized and large beverage companies have been reporting acute shortage in availability of aluminum cans to pack their products. For instance, Coca-Cola had even cut short the sales of less popular flavours in order to make room for its best sellers.

The investment will help the company to serve consumer needs for more sustainable beverage packaging.
The company is currently building an aluminum can plant in Glendale, Arizona, which is being scheduled for start up in Q1 next year. In addition, the previously announced aluminum cup plant in Rome, Georgia is expected to open before the end of the current year.
