Outokumpu and TechROi Develops New Stainless Steel Tanks, Makes Saab 9-3 Light Weight and Safer

HELSINKI (Scrap Monster): Outokumpu and TechROi Fuel Systems (TFS), Swedish fuel System Company have made out a new stainless steel fuel tank. This type is used in the new Saab 9-3. The new stainless steel tank is a competitive alternative for plastic tanks, with its significant properties.

In the most advanced automobile industry, they need competitive material. The significant properties together with the creative engineering techniques, design and manufacturing methods made it into an innovative fuel tank. They used Outokumpu HyTens® steel grade, which resulted in thin walls that made the tank’s weight three kg lower than the plastic fuel tank. The new tanks have high pressure resistant and excellent crash properties because of the deformation hardening property of the stainless steel grade.

They had previously developed many stainless steel tanks for the car makers in American market. The first step of new fuel tanks have been designed and made by TechROi Fuel Systems. This is made for new Saab 9-3 which is made out by National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB (NEVS), in Trollhättan, Sweden.
